A Breezy Escape to the East: The Ultimate Guide to Pasir Ris

When visiting Singapore, most tourists tend to flock to the nation’s most popular areas, such as the city center and Sentosa. But for a unique experience, why not try visiting an underrated neighborhood—like Pasir Ris, for example?

Pasir Ris is located in East Singapore, and it’s near Changi Airport, so if you’re coming to the country via plane, you can easily access this neighborhood. It has parks and other recreation options, so you have many exciting things to do here!

To ensure you’ll have a memorable time in Pasir Ris, check out what you can do, where to eat, and other things you can enjoy in the area through this guide.

Things to Know

History and Background

History and Background

Pasir Ris used to be a low-lying, undeveloped area with several kampongs, which were occupied by Malay and Chinese settlers. It also housed many plantation estates, such as the Singapore United Plantations and Thai Min Estates.

Eventually, in the 1980s, the government decided to develop Pasir Ris as a residential town. Aside from the various housing options, parks, shopping malls, and transportation facilities were built in Pasir Ris.

Now, even though Pasir Ris is mostly known as a residential neighborhood, it still attracts visitors because of its parks and other tourist attractions.

How to Get Around

MRT: Public transportation is readily available in Pasir Ris. If you prefer riding the MRT, there’s currently one station in the area: Pasir Ris MRT station.

Bus: Riding the bus is another great way to get around Pasir Ris. There are two bus service areas here, namely Pasir Ris Bus Interchange and Loyang Bus Depot.

Taxi or Ride-Hailing App: If you’re in a rush or you prefer a private traveling experience, you can also get around Pasir Ris by riding a taxi or any other taxi alternative like Grab and Gojek.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Pasir Ris is in February or from June through September. This is because the weather is warm during these periods—perfect for strolling in the parks or visiting the beach.

Wild Wild Wet is best known for its thrilling rides. Examples include Free Fall (plunging down a near-vertical drop), Royal Flush ( sliding down the tunnel while sitting on a raft), and Vortex High-Speed Slide (high-speed ride with extreme loops).

If thrilling rides aren’t your thing, then no worries; you can just swim in any of the pools. There’s also a water playground for children if you’re traveling with your little ones.

In addition to this, the park is also known for its carefully preserved mangrove forest. The Mangrove Boardwalk is a hit among hikers and nature lovers because it allows them to get a closer glimpse at all the thriving wildlife

Additionally, the park has a three-story bird-watching tower, so if you’re an avian enthusiast, you might want to stake your spot there and observe all the birds passing by.

Gallop Stable is located in Pasir Ris Park, but it deserves to be singled out because it offers such a fun, unique experience.

Gallop Stable provides horseriding services for all ages (children ride ponies instead of horses).

You don’t need to be experienced to ride a horse. The instructors will guide you along the way, so you can rest assured that you’re in good hands.

To make things better, you should try going on a trail ride.

This lasts for an hour, and in that time, you can enjoy the beautiful sight of lush greenery. You might even encounter a few wild animals like monkeys and jungle fowls!

Never tried longkang fishing before? Now is your chance to change that by visiting Pasir Ris Farmway!

This farm has gotten smaller throughout the years, but it still has enough space for you to try fishing. Most of the fish caught here are koi and giant Arapaima gigas (the largest freshwater fish in the world).

Children are also welcome to try fishing here. It only costs S$6 per 30 minutes, and they can fish in the mini-stream that’s filled with so many little fish.

If you don’t want to fish, you can feed the animals here instead. You only have to pay S$1–4, depending on the fish you want to feed.

If you can’t get enough of fishing, then stop by D’Best Fishing, which is located in Pasir Ris Town Park and is one of the few legalized fishing spots in Singapore

The pond here is big, so it’s divided into two sections: the Main Pond and the Pro Pond.

As its name suggests, the Pro Pond is for experienced anglers. If you’re not one, you’ll definitely have a hard time catching fish, so I recommend sticking to the Main Pond.

As for rates, if you’re fishing in the Main Pond between 6 am and 7 am, you’ll only have to pay S$8.75, but after 7 am, the rates will vary from S$61–66 per session.

If you’re fishing in the Pro Pond, a session costs between S$50 and S$70, depending on the duration.

On the first floor, the stalls sell hawker classics like bak chor mee, fish soup, and ayam penyet. But on the second floor, you’ll find other options you don’t normally see in hawker centers, such as beef bourguignon, kebabs, and waffles with ice cream

Indeed, this hawker center is the place to go when you’re craving multiple cuisines.

Asli Village

Another great halal food spot in Pasir Ris is Asli Village. This restaurant is Muslim-owned and serves delicious dishes from Thai and Malay cuisines.

The satay here is the primary bestseller, which isn’t surprising. The meat is perfectly tender and juicy, and the sauce adds a sweet and savory kick that improves the whole dish.

Aside from the satay, I really love the pineapple fried rice—it’s the perfect savory and sweet combination with its chicken chunks and pieces of pineapple and raisins!

Poulet

— From: dexarrius

Located in White Sands, Poulet will make you feel like you’ve teleported to France. This restaurant’s specialty is its roast chicken (paired with either a mushroom cream sauce, cranberry sauce, or Diane sauce), and I recommend you order that as well.

Aside from the roast chicken, you might also be interested in trying out truffle mushroom risotto and creamy salmon pot pie. Both dishes are incredibly hearty and flavorful—you’ll feel full in no time!

Don’t miss out on any of their desserts as well! The tiramisu is a big hitter, but I’m personally fond of the mixed berries with matcha ice cream crepe—the perfect mix of sweet and tangy.

Amigo’s

— From: firdaus_bunny and tenderfreshsg

Address: 444 Pasir Ris Drive 6, #01-102, Singapore 510446

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—12 pm to 12 am

Website

Finger-licking and lip-smacking good—that’s what Amigo’s promises to deliver with their chicken dishes. And fortunately, they do deliver!

The bestselling dish here is the smokey buffalo drumettes, which I can understand because each drumette is so tender and succulent, and the buffalo sauce is so addictively spicy. The beef steak with aglio olio is also quite the crowd-pleaser.

If you’re dining with a group, the signature whole-fried spring chicken is the best thing to order. Aside from the whole-fried chicken, it also comes with fries, coleslaw, and some greens, so you can easily share with your companions.

Kimly Coffeeshop

Address: 444 Pasir Ris Drive 6, Singapore 510444

Operating Hours: Open 24 hours

Despite being called a coffee shop, Kimly Coffeeshop doesn’t just serve coffee; they also serve other hearty dishes that will make you full in no time. Plus, the shop is open 24/7, and the dishes are affordable, so it’s the perfect stop when you’re on a budget.

My favorite things to order here are the salted egg prawns, sung mee, and char siew roast pork rice. If you love noodles and soups, then be sure to try the Teochew fish soup and Teochew noodles (your topping options are fishballs, minced meat, and laksa).

Koufu

Website

If you’re visiting Loyang Point, then you should stop by Koufu, which is the name of the food court here. Just as you can expect from any food court, the stalls here offer a variety of dishes, and they’re pretty affordable too.

I love getting the dumplings from the Chinese porridge stall because they’re so plump and juicy. From the same stall, I also love ordering the minced meat peanut porridge because it’s so hearty and comforting—it’s especially good to eat on rainy days.

Loyang Way Big Prawn Noodles

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Saturday—7 am to 3 pm
  • Closed on Sunday

Pricing: $

Speaking of noodle shops, another one that you must try is Loyang Way Big Prawn Noodles.

As the name suggests, the primary dish sold here is prawn noodles, and wow, it’s such an explosion of flavors. The broth has that perfect umami kick, and you’ll also get a mix of extremely juicy pork and prawn bits.

There’s also a dry version if you don’t like sipping broths, but while it’s still a great dish, it doesn’t have that extra oomph that the soup version has. That broth is really the piece that binds everything together.

The Basil Inn

Looking for a Thai restaurant in Pasir Ris? Then, I highly recommend The Basil Inn.

The Basil Inn claims that their Thai dishes are uncompromisingly Thai—that’s why their chefs only use traditional Thai cooking methods. So far, the dishes I’ve loved are khai jiao pu (Thai-style crab omelet) and phad kana moo krob (Thai-style stir-fried kailan).

Don’t forget to order the classic Thai milk tea. Its sweetness is the perfect way to end your meal.

The Soup Spoon Union

When the weather gets cold, there’s nothing better than slurping a bowl of hot soup. And The Soup Spoon Union delivers on that front.

For me, their best soups are the tangy tomato with basil and the roasted pumpkin. But it’s not just soups that are being sold here—you can also enjoy a great selection of sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads.

And if you really love a soup and you want to take it home, you can order a packed version of that soup from the “Soupermarket.” The take-home soups are ready to eat—you just have to pour them into a bowl and heat them in a microwave!

Eighteen Chefs is where you’ll want to go to satisfy your craving for Western dishes. The menu here is pretty extensive—you can find classics like burgers, salads, and pasta dishes, but there are also steaks and cheesy rice meals!

However, my favorite part of this restaurant is the fact that you can create your own dish! You’ll have to combine pasta or rice with your choice of sauce, and then you have to top it all off with your preferred protein—the possibilities are endless!

If you’re a lover of desserts like me, then you’ll love Whisk n Whip SG. This bakery sells visually appealing pastries and cakes that are just so decadent and sweet that you can’t help but buy more.

The products here are definitely on the higher end in terms of price point, but I think they’re absolutely worth it. I love the brownies, in particular, because they’re so luscious and gooey, but the cheesecakes also have my heart.

If you’re on a keto diet, this bakery sells some keto brownies and cakes as well.
