Tendon Kohaku offers a focused menu centred on its tendon (a rice bowl with meat, seafood, or veg toppings) selection. The items are available à la carte or as part of a set meal.

The Kohaku tendon featured prawns, crabstick, squid, long beans, baby corn, pumpkin, shiitake mushroom, and chicken breast. The crunchiness of the tempura held up well, particularly the prawn which was tender and juicy inside.

Pro-tip: If you prefer extra sauce, each table is equipped with a bottle for customisation.

Another must-try is the French-style chicken stew featuring creamy, fragrant chicken chunks.

Pro-tip: The restaurant serves complimentary coleslaw!

Sque is a relaxed spot ideal for quick lunches and casual gatherings over beer and bistro fare. With over 200 beer options ranging from S$6.50 to S$50 per bottle, it offers a diverse selection, including apple cider, chocolate stout, and the usual favourites.

Additionally, the cafeteria-style counter serves up rotisserie meats such as chicken, pork rib, and lamb leg. We think the beef rib stands out for its Louisiana-style preparation and addictively spicy and smoky marinade.

Pro-tip: Non-alcoholic options and ciders are available for those who prefer lighter drinks.

The sashimi serving size at Hitoyoshi Yoshi Sushi is comparable to other Japanese restaurants, featuring five types of fish with two slices each, all fresh and well-sliced.

For us, the highlight is the sashimi bowl, evident from its popularity among diners, with various options available.

We ordered one with minced tuna sashimi topped with chunky pieces of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and scoops of prawn roe. It was a harmonious blend of fresh fish with fluffy, sweet, and sour sushi rice.

Pro-tip: The salmon head miso soup is generously portioned, offering half a salmon head with a balanced meat-to-bone ratio for a delightful umami flavour.

It’s an expensive Japanese place, but one bite of the thick-cut, fresh sashimi, with notable options like sake (salmon) and mekajiki (swordfish), can reassure you of the quality.

Another noteworthy dish is the sake mentai aburi (flame-seared salmon) featuring moist salmon topped with savoury mentaiko (cod roe) sauce, served on vinegared rice.

Pro-tip: If you want something deep fried, Mitsuba’s menu includes a variety of tempura such as shrimp, veggies, and even squid tentacles.

L’Atelier TiramiSu offers a variety of flavours, including classic, pistachio, lychee, Earl Grey, lavender, matcha, and brulee. It sells nothing but tiramisu, which is a bold move in a sea of more diverse cuisine within Clarke Quay.

To celebrate a special occasion, we tried its Mala Monster Fish Tasty Feast for 4. It featured a combination of skewers and the signature Golden Pumpkin Monster Fish, which was grilled to perfection and boasted tender white meat and crispy skin.

Accompanying the fish was a flavorful pumpkin chilli broth, which lent a refreshing tang to the entire dish.

Pro-tip: Choose your favourite savoury sides like big bean sprouts, luncheon meat, and black fungus.
