4 Flowers and Herbs That Keep Pests Away

You can always rely on the best pest control companies in Singapore to keep your environment free of bugs and other creepy crawlies. But since it could become costly, why not consider some helpful houseplants instead?

Today, we’ll be looking at four flowers and herbs that can keep pests away. They’re not hard to come by, and they’re easy to grow and maintain, too!

Lavender

Lavender

A popular DIY air freshener and potpourri component, the lavender has a pleasant smell that, unfortunately for bugs, repels insects and other pests.

Lavender is calming to the senses and can be a great essential oil ingredient for your diffuser. Its soothing scent has been known to help people get better sleep, too. It’s too bad for mosquitoes and other bugs, though, because it’s also a well-known insect repellent.

You can put lavender in a pot, a few sprigs in a vase, or use an essential oil version to keep your home smelling lovely while making it bug-free.

Mint

Mint

A great urban gardening tip is to keep small pots of your favourite herbs by your kitchen window or balcony for easy access. And since mint is such a refreshing and versatile plant, you may as well keep some of them to keep as a bug repellent.

Aside from being a delicious addition to slimming teas and your drinking water, mint can keep insects away because of its strong scent. Mosquitoes, cockroaches, and even spiders are known to be repelled by this plant.

As an added bonus, it can be used in several versatile ways. You can use it as a prepared spray, as an essential oil, crush some of its leaves to put in small bags, or simply put a fresh pot of mint in areas prone to bugs.

Oregano

Oregano

If you find yourself requesting extra oregano in your pizza delivery orders, you may as well grow your own inside your house. Oregano is particularly effective at keeping aphids, mosquitoes, and spider mites away, so they’re quite useful for both plants and people.

You can crush the leaves or simply leave a pot out where other herbs or plants are to keep them healthy and free from pests. Oregano is also known to help alleviate coughing and congestion when turned into a soothing tea.

It’s also a good all-natural exterminator of bed bugs when mixed with other ingredients, so it’s really a versatile plant to have around.

Marigold

Marigold

Aside from making gorgeous fresh flower arrangements, marigolds are pretty handy at repelling a number of insects. They’re a popular ingredient for most natural mosquito repellents, in fact.

Marigolds are also good at keeping snails, worms, spider mites, and other garden insects and pests at bay. They don’t require a lot of upkeep, unlike other herbs and flowers, so you can leave them to their own devices and only prune and water as needed.

But you’ll need to be careful about picking a marigold variety that has a strong scent. The stronger it is, the better chances you have of it working effectively against bugs and other pests.
