My Definitive List of the Best Halal Foods on Orchard Road

Though I’m not Muslim, I’ve come to appreciate halal restaurants in my years as a food blogger. I love that they come in a wide variety of cuisines, so there’s always something for everyone.

Orchard Road, in particular, is one area that has a lot of them, and as a fun foodie challenge, I decided to try as many of them in a month or two. Overall, I loved the experience, and now, I have even more restaurants that I want to go back to.

If you’re looking for recommendations, here are the ones that have received my stamp of approval!

Nando’s Plaza Singapura

Address: 68 Orchard Rd, #04 -10/11 Plaza Singapura

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6563372555

Website

I actually got Nando’s as a recommendation from a fellow foodie, and thank goodness I followed through because this restaurant is amazing. It’s an Afro-Portuguese cuisine fusion. That’s enough to get me intrigued!

The highlight for me is the Peri-Honey Chicken Thigh Bowl. The thigh meat is so juicy, and the seasonings and sauce balance out the sweet and spicy flavors well. There’s also an edamame corn salsa as a side dish to refresh your burning palate.

As someone with a sweet tooth, of course, I can’t pass up the opportunity to end my meal with a dessert. I usually go for the salted caramel brownie because it’s just so indulgent. The Double Natas (Portuguese custard tart) is also creamy and decadent.

Pro Tips:

  • This restaurant has several bottomless options: soda, chocolate, tea, and coffee. There’s even bottomless frozen yogurt!
  • If you’re a big fan of Nando’s, I recommend getting their app and becoming a member. Membership gives you many perks, such as a free chicken meal once you hit a milestone!

4Fingers Crispy Chicken

Address: 277 Orchard Road, Orchard Gateway, #01-04/05

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Website

If you’re a big fan of all things chicken, then you’ll certainly love 4Fingers Crispy Chicken. For me, the chicken dishes here are so good that they’re bad—bad for my wallet and my heart!

Whenever my craving for chicken is at its peak, I order the 18-piece wingettes and drumettes. I love to share these with a friend, but there are a few times when I eat all of them by myself (like I said, sorry to my heart).

I also love getting the Chicc Tower. It’s a chicken burger that’s so tall you’ll feel like your jaw is about to break! The two chicken patties are crispy and juicy, and the cheese slices add a sharp savoriness to the meal.

Pro Tip:

  • You can get a membership and enjoy perks like chicken dishes on your birthday month and discounted prices!

Butter Studio

Address: 391 Orchard Rd, Ngee Ann City

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 9:30 pm

Contact Number: +6567346153

Website

For sweet tooths who love cakes, Butter Studio is worth checking out. This bakery has adorable cupcakes available on display (some of them have a theme like dinosaurs and mermaids), so I can’t help but purchase one every time I pass by.

I usually get the Chocolate Indulgence Cakelet, which is exactly what it says on the name. It’s a small cake filled with Nutella and coated in ombre chocolate colors, then it’s topped with different kinds of chocolates—indulgent indeed!

I also love getting the Summer Lemon Tart because it has a strong tang flavor that counteracts the sweet notes perfectly. I also love the fluffy meringue on top and the crispy crust.

Pro Tip:

  • They have a membership program. The basic tier is free, and you’ll enjoy perks like cashback opportunities and a birthday voucher!

Monster Planet

Monster Planet is the place to go if you’re looking for a halal Japanese restaurant. It specializes in Japanese-style curry, but you can also enjoy other classic treats like tempura and chicken katsu.

What I love about it is that the plates are big (41 cm in diameter!), so your order is always jam-packed with meat, rice, and other side dishes. As a result, I’m always full after eating here.

My ultimate recommendation is Monster Combo Curry, which has chicken katsu, thin strips of beef, shrimp tempura, and fried fish. Everything is so crispy and savory, and the curry adds even richer flavors to every bite.

If you love pasta, you can’t go wrong with the Japanese carbonara. The sauce is creamy and loaded with umami flavors, and the turkey bacon and mushrooms taste savory and earthy at the same time.

Pro Tips:

  • Monster Planet often holds promotions like dinner deals and lunch specials. Planning a party with your loved ones? You can have your celebration here!

Poulet + Brasserie

Address: 2 Orchard Turn, #B3-21 ION Orchard

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11:30 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6565094342

Website

Take a culinary trip to France by dining at Poulet + Brasserie! This French restaurant has always been one of my favorites on Orchard Road, so I was glad to know that it’s halal so that I can recommend it to even more people.

Located in one of the most popular shopping malls in the area, it’s widely known for its roast chicken, and I totally get it. The chicken meat is perfectly juicy, and it tastes herby and savory.

The sauces for the chicken—Diane sauce, mushroom cream sauce, and cranberry sauce—are wonderful as well because they add rich flavors with hints of sweetness.

I also love the grilled ribeye with mushroom gratin. The steak meat melts on my tongue like butter, and the mushroom gratin is cheesy with a crispy top.

Pro Tip:

The Dim Sum Place

Address: 176 Orchard Rd, #B1 – 07 The Centrepoint

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Thursday—10:30 am to 9:30 pm
  • Friday to Sunday—10 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6569708812

Website

At The Dim Sum Place, you can indulge in a wide variety of Hong Kong-style dim sum and other Cantonese dishes!

I usually get the chicken xiao long bao (each piece is loaded with so much savory filling) or the crystal shrimp dumplings (plump and juicy). Then, I order roasted duck, which is perfectly golden and the meat tastes herby and savory.

When it’s cold outside, be sure to try their congee. I love the congee with Century Egg. I know the Century Egg gets a bad reputation, but I actually like the taste. It’s umami and salty, and I love the jelly-like exterior because it makes for a unique texture.

Pro Tip:

  • If you’re dining with more than 10 people, you need to contact the restaurant directly via phone.

Tambuah Mas

Address: 290 Orchard Rd, Paragon Shopping Centre, #B1 – 44

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6567332220

Website

Tambuah Mas has been around since 1981, so it’s not a surprise to learn that it now has a loyal following. It specializes in Indonesian cuisine, and the chefs are all from Indonesia, so you can expect authentic flavors here.

I love getting the Ayam Goren Istimewa, which is a traditional fried chicken that’s crispy and tastes predominantly gingery. I also recommend the Ayam Korma, which is another chicken dish, but this time, it’s simmered in coconut milk, so it’s creamy and a bit sweet.

For dessert, be sure to try Es Cendol. It’s an icy treat with homemade green bean jelly, coconut milk, and palm sugar. It’s not that sweet and so refreshing, and I also love biting into the jelly.

Pro Tips:

  • Book Tambuah Mas as the venue for your event! If you already have a venue, you can still hire this restaurant as your caterer.

Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut

— From _mafiakitchen_

Address: 304 Orchard Rd, #01-42 Lucky Plaza

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 9:30 pm

Contact Number: +6567344787

Website

Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut is another great place to go if you’re craving authentic Indonesian dishes.

My favorite thing to order here has to be the original crispy fried duck dish. The duck is marinated for 24 hours, so the savory flavors really seep into the meat. Then, it’s fried to perfection and served with a cup of fragrant, fluffy rice. Such a filling meal!

Sometimes, I also get the Sop Buntut (oxtail soup). The broth is clear and tastes incredibly rich, and the oxtail meat is so soft and tender that it falls off the bone!

Pro Tip:

  • The peak hours for this restaurant tend to be around dinner time on the weekends (including Friday). If you’re visiting during that time, be prepared to queue.

Ayam Penyet Ria

Address: 304 Orchard Rd, Lucky Plaza #04-25/27

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 8:30 pm

Contact Number: +6562357385

Website

I love coming to Ayam Penyet Ria because it’s a family-owned business, so the vibes are always warm and welcoming—almost as if I’m visiting my own family. It also helps that the dishes are delicious, so all the more reason to come back.

Ayam Penyet is the signature dish here, and it’s also my go-to recommendation. It’s a fried chicken dish where the chicken is squeezed with the pestle to tenderize it. The meat is definitely tender, and I love pairing it with the sambal for a kick of spice.

Once you’re done eating your main meal, order Es Campur for your dessert. It’s a shaved ice treat with mixed fruits. It’s so refreshing and tangy!

Pro Tip:

  • The restaurant can get packed around lunch and dinner time, so try coming sometime in the afternoon instead.

Cajun on Wheels

Address: 68 Orchard Rd, Plaza Singapura, #03-92

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6563419665

Website

Cajun on Wheels truly is a paradise for seafood lovers. This seafood restaurant offers a wide variety of items, including seafood buckets and grilled seafood!

If you’re interested in the seafood bucket, I recommend getting the Olympian Bucket because it has everything: Sri Lankan crabs, Boston lobsters, blue mussels, white clams, and so many more. Of course, it’s better if you have other people to share this.

If you just want an a la carte dish, I recommend the grilled squid platter. The squid meat is tender and doused in a savory-sweet sauce. There’s also a side salad to refresh your palate when you’re done eating.

Pro Tips:

Bali Thai

Address: 391A Orchard Rd, Ngee Ann City, #05 – 29

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11:30 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6562355125

Website

As you might guess from the name, Bali Thai is a restaurant that celebrates the very best of Thai and Indonesian cuisines.

I tend to get the Ayam Panggang Bali (grilled chicken), which has a lovely charred flavor with sweet notes. You might also like the Ikan Bakar Bali, which is a grilled fish that tastes both savory and sweet.

Your meal won’t be complete without fried rice. I recommend getting the crab meat omelet fried rice, which is fluffy and creamy at the same time. The crab meat also adds a nice sweetness to every spoonful.

Pro Tip:

Ichikokudo Hokkaido Ramen

Address: 313 Orchard Rd, 313@somerset, #B3-35/36

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Website

In my opinion, nothing tastes better than a steaming bowl of ramen on a cold, rainy day. That’s why when the weather is gloomy and wet, I go to Ichikokudo Hokkaido Ramen.

I love the ICHI-Smoked Duck Ramen. The wheat noodles have a nice spring to every bite, the broth is rich and umami, and the smoked duck soaks up all the flavors and is so tender. Oh, I’m drooling right now!

If I’m really hungry, I will add the Korean Spicy Chicken Karaage Don to my order. The chicken is wonderfully crispy, and the heat from all the spice isn’t painful. I like to add a soft-boiled egg to the dish just to make it even richer.

Pro Tip:

  • If you want to secure your spot, you can make a reservation. But take note that there are only a few seats available for reservation. So, nab the spot when you can!

Colonial Club Signatures

Address: 290 Orchard Rd, Paragon Shopping Centre, #B1-43

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +6562193592

Website

What I love about Colonial Club Signature is that they’re unabashedly celebrating Singaporean culture. That’s why the interior is distinctly Peranakan-inspired, and the menu is filled with local treats that are given a modern twist.

You have to get the Hainanese chicken rice, the classic dish that most Singaporeans love ordering from hawkers. The chicken meat is so succulent, and the flavor profile is subtle but still herby and savory. Add a bit of chili sauce to make it spicy if you want.

The Nasmi Lemak Curry Chicken is another must-try. I love how the richness of the egg pairs well with the heat from the curry sauce. Plus, the chicken absorbs all the flavor from the sauce, so every bite is a delight.

Pro Tip:

  • This restaurant can get quite packed on the weekends, especially during lunch and dinner time. I recommend coming here as soon as they open or sometime in the afternoon.

Pistachio Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Grill

Contact Number: +6562626400

Website

Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines are two of my favorites because the flavors are bold and leave a delightful aftertaste, making me crave more. If you love these cuisines as well, you should stop by Pistachio at Wheelock Place!

My go-to order is usually the Moroccan Couscous Royale because it’s loaded with everything: grilled lamb chops, chicken, and lamb sausages. The whole plate smells so good, and the meat chunks are well-seasoned (earthy and spicy).

You can’t pass up the opportunity to try any of the pide (Turkish-style pizza) options. I personally love the Lamb Merguez Pide, which is bursting with savory-spicy flavors, thanks to the lamb sausages, shredded cheddar, and mozzarella.

Pro Tip:

  • Look out for promotions like discounts and limited-time dishes.
