The Best Affordable Romantic Dinner Spots in Singapore: Our Go-To Spots When We’re Broke
As simple as it sounds, eating out is my and my partner’s preferred date night idea. We’re both foodies, after all, so it makes sense that we spend our bonding moments exploring new flavors and discussing every topic related to food.
But sometimes we’re short on cash, so we can’t go out to our favorite fine-dining restaurants. Fortunately, though, there are still many dining spots in Singapore that are romantic and affordable at the same time.
If you’re broke right now but still want to go on a memorable date, I recommend checking these out!

The dishes here are mostly from Japanese cuisine, so you can treat yourself to sushi rolls and sashimi. My partner and I go for the Wagyu beef fried rice. The Wagyu beef is so tender and juicy, and the rice is fluffy and buttery. Yum!

I can’t resist the fried chicken and waffles here. The crispy, savory goodness of the chicken, paired with the fluffy, sweet waffles—how can I say no?
Meanwhile, my partner is a big fan of the Cajun lamb chop. He finds the lamb meat tender and well-seasoned—peppery, with strong hints of spice.

I recommend getting the Welsh lamb shoulder on the bone. This has been slow-cooked for over 12 hours, so the meat practically melts on your tongue. Plus, the savory and tangy flavors penetrate deep into the meat, so every bite is a delight.

- You can host a wedding at this restaurant.
Binary

Located inside Palais Renaissance on Orchard Road, Binary might seem to be too fancy at first glance. But it actually has affordable rates, which is why my partner and I love coming here so much!
So far, our favorite thing to get here is the Gambas Al Ajillo. This dish looks deceptively simple: just tiger prawns cooked in garlic and olive oil. But somehow the flavor profile is complex: nutty, earthy, and slightly sweet. We can’t get enough of it!
Pro Tip:
- This place gets packed on the weekends, especially dinnertime. If you’re planning a weekend dinner with your partner, I recommend reserving a spot days before. You can do so by calling the restaurant.

You can expect to find vibrant Mediterranean dishes here. My ultimate recommendation is the Moroccan-style braised chicken leg, which tastes a combination of tart, earthy, and spicy. It also has a bit of sweetness, thanks to the onions.
Pro Tip:
- As Hortus guests, you and your partner have access to the limousine buggy service. You simply have to wait at the Gardens’ main entrance (the taxi drop-off point) for the buggy service to arrive. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes.

I’m a pasta lover, so my go-to order here is the prawn aglio olio linguine. It’s rich and nutty, with hints of spice. Meanwhile, the tiger prawns are plump and sweet, the perfect pasta companion.
My partner prefers the duck confit because the duck meat is tender and savory, and it pairs well with the pickled berries the dish is served with.

Italian cuisine is hard to beat, so if that’s what you and your partner are craving, I recommend going to Pietro Ristorante Italiano.
Treat yourself to any of the pasta and risotto options. My favorite is the rigatoni di zucca, which has roasted pumpkin, tomato cream sauce, and feta cheese. Every forkful of this dish is an explosion of salty, earthy, and tangy flavors. I can’t get enough of it!
Of course, you have to try the pizza as well. My partner and I always choose the Pizza Romana because we love the combination of sweet baked ham and salty feta cheese.

You can’t go wrong with the iconic chicken souvlaki. It has a lovely charred flavor that elevates the dish, and the tangy tzatziki sauce makes it even better.
For dessert, don’t pass up the opportunity to get the baklava. It’s such a simple dessert—just layers of filo pastry, chopped nuts, and honey syrup, but it’s oh-so indulgent!

The Iberico pork kebab is a must-try, in our opinion. This kebab is smoky and savory, and it pairs really well with the sweetness from the apricot glaze. It’s also served with chermoula, a bright and herby sauce that’s tangy, spicy, and somewhat refreshing.

We always like to start our meal with freshly shucked oysters. We pair ours with red wine mignonette for a strong sour and slightly sweet taste.
For our main course, we get the swordfish belly that’s been dry-aged. This one is seasoned with their signature spice rub, so every bite packs quite a lot of heat.

End your meal on a high note by ordering a cannoli. This Italian dessert is made up of a crispy cannoli shell that’s filled with pistachio mascarpone cream. It’s so satisfying to bite into, and I love that the cream isn’t too sweet.
