Granny’s Pancake offers three fillings—peanut, coconut flakes, and red bean paste. The pastry is like a cross between mochi and authentic Singaporean-style pancakes so it’s enjoyable even when cold.

The min chiang kueh (peanut pancakes) boasts a delightful texture—soft with a slight chewiness. The coconut variant is equally appealing, featuring moist, lightly sweetened shredded coconuts that maintain a fresh taste without being overpowering.

Pro-tip: The pancakes are vegan-friendly, so meat-free breakfast fans can order as much as they like.

Indonesia Curry Rice draws a constant long queue for its Indonesian-style nasi lemak (coconut-infused rice) with vibrant yellow rice (nasi kuning or nasi kunyit). A particular standout is its beef curry that you might just find yourself scraping the bowl for every last drop.

Another must-try is the crunchy fried skin on the chicken drumstick. It has a level of crispiness that brings joy with every bite.

Pro-tip: Arrive as early as possible; lunch hours usually bring a lengthy queue.

The coconut-flavoured soup is robust yet soothing, especially on cold, wet days. It’s mildly spicy so even kids can enjoy a bowl.

Other stall highlights include curry fish head and sweet sour pork, though its Assam fish head curry is also popular. The clay pot-served curry fish head stands out for its well-balanced curry mix, with the fish head being steamed first.

Pro-tip: The fish head curry provides ample flesh on the snapper head for up to three persons, so share away.

Wah Kee’s wanton noodles excel in every aspect—springy noodles complemented by tasty chilli and slightly larger wantons. The wantons are smooth, following the traditional recipe for rich, delicious fillings.

Pro-tip: The S$4 order suits smaller appetites, while S$5 is the standard portion size.

In January 2023, the original owner of Bendemeer Market & Food Centre’s beloved chee cheong fun (steamed rice rolls) hawker passed away. The good news is that Nan Rong Chee Cheong Fun has resumed operations at its usual spot with a new, younger staff.

Nan Rong’s version remains true to the dish’s local roots. Affordable yet satisfying, the bestseller is the S$1 chee cheong fun, served with a side of sweet brown sauce.

Pro-tip: Besides chee cheong fun, the stall offers savoury dishes, including a must-try yam kueh (taro cake) at S$0.80 and Nyonya dumplings at S$2.20.

The siew mai stands out for its hand-rolled, flavourful, plump, and meaty pork balls with the right balance of lean and fatty pork.

It’s only open for three hours in the morning, though the stall draws a queue before its official opening.

Pro-tip: Hurry, hurry! The items are freshly made daily, but it’s wise to arrive early as they often sell out by 9 AM!
