Embracing the Country Lifestyle: The Best Farms in Singapore

Singapore’s urban area offers a great deal of things to do for families, but did you know that the countryside has just as many exciting activities as well? One of these activities is visiting a farm.

There’s a good variety of farms in Singapore. Aside from your typical ones involving fruits, vegetables, and other plants, farms can raise all sorts of animals—from adorable goats to formidable crocodiles!

If you’re planning to visit a few farms in Singapore soon, check out this list of recommendations.

If you’re a fan of goats (or maybe your child is), then Hay Dairies might pique your interest. After all, this farm is home to over 800 goats!

Additionally, this is the only farm in Singapore that produces goat’s milk locally, so you can purchase a bottle or two if you want (I recommend it; it’s super creamy!).

You can even watch the milking of the goats. It happens daily from 9 to 10:30 am.

If you or your child wants to try feeding the goats, feel free to buy a bag of alfalfa hay for only S$5.

Gallop Kranji is an interesting destination simply because it’s both a farm and a resort. For this reason, I always recommend staying here for a day or two with your loved ones; its peaceful environment is truly a breath of fresh air.

This resort offers a ton of exciting activities. On the one hand, you can tour the various plantations of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, and on the other, you can try prawning and feeding the koi fish.

There are also farms for fish, bees, and birds, and I recommend checking them out as well.

While you’re here, you should take the opportunity to learn more about these formidable reptiles. And if you dare, why not try to taste crocodile meat, too?

This is probably one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to. It’s a fish farm and a restaurant that’s floating at sea—just off the coastal waters of Pulau Ubin!

Because of this, Smith Marine gives off a peaceful, rustic vibe. I love being away from the noises of the city as well as being able to breathe in the fresh, salty air.

An Edible Garden City initiative, Citizen Farm is a place where local farmers gather to grow fresh and delicious crops.

The farm isn’t open to the public, but Edible Garden City holds tours, workshops, and camps throughout the year. So, if you’re interested, I recommend joining one when you’re available and learning all about sustainable urban farming.

They’ll also share recipes using the ingredients you can find on the farm. So, if you’re a cook, you’ll be delighted to know these recipes and try them for yourself.

Urban Farm at Funan

Address: 107 North Bridge Rd, Singapore

Urban Farm at Funan is another initiative by Edible Garden City, and this one is located on the rooftop of a shopping mall. Spanning an area of 5,000 square feet, this urban farm is home to a wide array of crops, including herbs, edible flowers, and fruits.

Just like the other farms mentioned in this list, this one shows different farming techniques. Soil-based techniques are prominent, but so are hydroponics and aquaculture, so you’ll learn a lot here.

Another great thing about visiting this urban farm is that you’ll get a beautiful view of the cityscape. The Singapore River and Parliament House, in particular, are very clear from this vantage point.
