A Guide to a Sunny Weekend in Pasir Ris Beach Park, Singapore

Being an island nation, Singapore undoubtedly has many amazing beaches, most of them located in Sentosa. However, there’s also a beach park located in the East Region: Pasir Ris Beach Park.

Unfortunately, you often can’t swim on the beach because of the presence of Enterococcus bacteria. According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), the bacteria can cause gastrointestinal infections, so they discourage swimming there.

Don’t despair yet though! Even though you can’t swim on Pasir Ris Beach, you can still do many fun things here. Here’s our comprehensive guide to the area!

What to Do and See in Pasir Ris Beach Park

See all the butterflies in the Butterfly Garden

From: edwin_arokiyam

At the Butterfly Garden, you’re in for a beautiful sight! After all, this area is filled with so many colorful butterflies—some flying freely in the air, others feasting on nectar plants—so you’ll be staring in awe at everything!

Take out your phone and feel free to snap as many pictures as you want. If you’re a butterfly enthusiast, you might also take the opportunity to find your favorites. Some of the butterflies you’ll find here are the plain tiger butterfly and the blue glassy tiger butterfly.

Get lost in the Maze Garden

From: evelynling

Another amazing garden you can find in Pasir Ris Park is the Maze Garden, and it’s perfect if you want to experience a mini adventure!

As you probably expect, this garden has hedges that are taller than you, so once you step inside the maze, you’ll feel lost, and the only way to get out is through trial and error. Finding the exit using your problem-solving skills is always an exciting thing!

If you want to make the experience even more thrilling, you can play tag with your friends and/or family while navigating the maze. My family and I do it every time, and we always squeal in surprise or curse each other out!

Check out the plants in the Kitchen Garden

From: jamespenhnature

If you’re a big botany nerd, then you should stop by the Kitchen Garden. As the name suggests, this garden features a wide array of edible plants that are commonly used in local cuisines.

The plants featured here change often, but some of the ones you can see include pineapples, gingers, fishwort plants, sponge gourds, lady’s fingers, tapioca, lemongrass, cocoa, sugar leaf plants, and common mugworts.

If you want to start your very own garden at home, you can ask for tips and tricks from the caretakers here!

Play in the Adventure Playground

From: tanadrian18

Who says only children can play in a playground? At Adventure Playground, even adults are free to indulge their inner child!

This playground is nautical-themed, so there’s a ship-like structure with climbing ropes, holes for windows, and slides. Whenever I’m here with my little cousins, we always pretend to be pirates sailing the seven seas in search of treasure!

Ride a bicycle around the park

From: ja817

Pasir Ris Beach Park features sprawling grounds, and though you can technically navigate the whole place via walking, another fun way to do so is by riding a bicycle. You can bring your own, but if you don’t have one, you can rent at the GoCycling stall.

I recommend just following the clear paths throughout the park. These paths are pretty wide and not rugged, making them perfect for new bikers as well. I actually bring my cousins here to practice their biking skills.

If you don’t like riding a bike, how about riding a pony instead? Yes, you read that right. You can definitely ride a pony in Pasir Ris Beach. Simply head to the Gallop Stable!

If you don’t know how to ride a pony, don’t worry because this stable also offers classes for beginners of all ages. The classes focus on fundamental riding skills, and then through different practical skills, you can build your confidence over time.

Once you’ve finished the beginner-friendly classes, you can take the advanced ones, which deal with lateral movements, show jumping, and schooling exercises.

You can also learn about inline skating in Pasir Ris Park because Twinny Skates is located here.

I already know how to skate, but my little cousins don’t, so I sometimes take them here to take classes from Twinny Skates. Once the classes are over, my cousins and I will try to skate along the paths in the park.

Sometimes we even try to race each other! It’s not really a good idea since we keep falling down, but it’s definitely fun, so we do it again and again.

Enjoy a picnic on a sunny day

From: chachashine28

Since the park has a lot of green space, going on a picnic is a great idea. Bring your picnic essentials—a blanket and a basket full of snacks—and enjoy an hour or two of tranquility with the occasional cool breeze from the sea.

Another great thing about the park is that it’s pet-friendly. So your furry friend can join you on your picnic as well!

Camp under the stars

From: yellowsalmons

For an even more memorable time in Pasir Ris Beach, you might want to consider camping here! This park has two designated camping areas (Areas 1 and 3), and all you need to do is apply for a free camping permit in advance.

Camping here at night is such a delight. We get to enjoy the view of the starry sky while enjoying the fresh breeze. Plus, there are many BBQ pits in the area, so everyone can cook food together while chatting about every topic we can think of.

Walking along the mangrove boardwalk

From: nparksbuzz

On the far end of Pasir Ris Park is a dense, 6-hectare mangrove forest. It’s arguably one of the park’s most popular landmarks, so you should check it out when you can!

Fortunately, this mangrove forest has a boardwalk, so your trek won’t be uncomfortable. During your walk, be sure to be on the lookout for wild animals, such as mud crabs, mudskippers, and water monitors.

You can also find several wild plants like pong pong and breathing roots.

Spot birds at the Bird-Watching Tower

From: jay_jk_

Located within the mangrove forest is the Bird-Watching Tower, and this is perfect for all the avian enthusiasts who want to spot wild birds either flying or resting in their natural habitats.

I’m not a bird watcher, but I love using this tower as an observation deck. The view here is gorgeous, and I feel like it’s even more beautiful when it’s sunrise. Just imagine seeing the golden light spilled across the sky and dappling the mangrove forest!

Georges at The Cove is located on the beachfront, so you can enjoy a beautiful view and a cool breeze on top of delicious food.

The menu is filled with Western favorites. So far, my favorite is the braised lamb shank because it’s so tender and juicy. I also really like the butter chicken makhani; the spiced butter and cream sauce is so decadent, and the chicken cubes soak up all that flavor!

For your drinks, there are several beer options on tap, plus several ciders, cocktails, and spirits.

Rasa Istimewa is a popular halal restaurant in Singapore, so I’m glad to hear that there’s an outlet in Pasir Ris Park.

Feast on tasty BBQ seafood! I usually choose prawns, sea bass, and shellfish, but there are also other options like cuttlefish, stingrays, and crayfish. There are also satay options, such as chicken, beef, beef tripe, and mutton.

Western classics are available here as well. My favorite is the fish and chips because it’s such a comforting dish.
