The Best Cafes in Serangoon Where I Can Work and Enjoy Delicious Food at the Same Time

Technically, I work from home, but sometimes, I get super bored, so I spice things up by going to a cafe. They tend to have a quiet atmosphere and delicious food, so they’re conducive to productive work!

Since I momentarily relocated to Serangoon due to family matters, I’ve already scoured the neighborhood for the best cafes. And wow, there’s a great variety here—from humble kopitiams to themed shops with lots of plants and colorful decor!

If you’re looking for cafes in the area where you can work and eat, here are my recommendations.

Apollo Coffee Bar

— From: apollocoffeebar

Address: 65 Serangoon Garden Way

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday to Saturday—9 am to 10 pm
  • Sunday—9 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +6562463875

Website

Nestled in the heart of Serangoon Gardens, Apollo Coffee Bar delivers the best vibes. The interior is all white and muted colors, and there are also bursts of greenery, thanks to the plants, so you will feel at ease here.

I usually come here around brunch, so my go-to order is the breakfast burger because it’s easy to eat with one hand and also quite filling. For my drink, I alternate between an iced latte, a matcha latte, and slow-pressed juice.

Pro Tips:

  • You can buy a voucher from here and give it to a fellow cafe lover.
  • Do you want to host an event in this cafe? You can send an inquiry via this form.

Chū and Co.

— From: chuand.co

Address: 15 Lichfield Rd

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—8:30 am to 4 pm

Contact Number: +6588747615

Website

At Chū and Co., you’ll be able to indulge in sweet pastry treats (as good as those from the best patisseries!) and coffee while enjoying the tranquility of the shop’s yard. Truly a cozy experience!

I’m always in awe of the different types of bread and pastries available here. I usually get the salmon rillette brioche bun because it tastes savory and refreshing at the same time.

If I’m craving something sweet, I order the lemon cake. Interestingly enough, sweet isn’t the dominant flavor here. Instead, it’s tart, with a hint of olive oil and rosemary.

Pro Tip:

  • If you have any inquiries about hosting events or ordering customized packages, you can contact them via phone.

Sun Ray Cafe

— From: sun_ray_cafe

Address: 79 Brighton Cres

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday—9 am to 8:30 pm

Contact Number: +6589098458

Website

Featuring a rustic interior, Sun Ray Cafe makes you feel like you’re in the countryside. This place is also pet-friendly, so feel free to bring your beloved furbabies!

I can’t resist the beef shakshuka. The tomato sauce, mixed with minced beef, is tangy and spicy, and the eggs with their runny yolks add a lovely richness to the whole thing. I love using my toasted bread to scoop out the sauce and the egg. Yum!

I usually pair my food with a glass of iced mocha. It has enough caffeine to energize me, and it also satisfies my chocolate cravings!

Pro Tip:

  • This cafe also offers dog cakes, so treat your pets whenever you can without going to a specialty shop!

Toast Box

— From: toastboxsg

Address: 23 Serangoon Central, B2 – 58 / 59 NEX

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—7:30 am to 9:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—8 am to 9:30 pm

Contact Number: +6566344490

Website

In a way, Toast Box feels nostalgic, and that’s because this cafe also preserves the heritage of Nanyang culture. For that reason, you can find mostly Nanyang specialties on the menu, such as Nanyang-style kopi, clay pot curry chicken, and old-school cakes.

I recommend getting the kopi and kaya toast—the classic breakfast duo that’s embedded in Singapore’s food culture

The kaya toast is sweet and buttery, and it pairs well with the richness of the soft-boiled egg. Meanwhile, the kopi is fragrant and strong, and you’ll be motivated to get work done as soon as possible the moment you finish sipping it!

Pro Tip:

Into the Woods Cafe

— From: intothewoods.cafe

Address: 26 Jln Kelulut

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +6569967601

Into the Woods Cafe is such a hidden hangout spot in Serangoon. This cafe goes all out in its woodsy decor, so you’ll truly feel like enjoying a moment of tranquility in the forest!

I love getting the Tropical Breakfast because it’s loaded with so much (green salad, chicken sausage, eggs, hash browns, and more), so I always feel so satisfied afterward. Sometimes, I order waffles with ice cream because I need the sugar to power me further.

Pro Tip:

  • This cafe is a great high tea spot! High tea is available from 2 to 5 pm every day. If the price of high tea is too expensive for you, you have another option: the Snacky Palette.

Tiong Bahru Bakery

— From: tiongbahrubakery

Address: 8 Maju Ave

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8 am to 8 pm

Contact Number: +6568774890

Website

Craving French patisserie, in particular? Then, you might like Tiong Bahru Bakery (TBB)! Here, you can find your favorite French pastries, especially baguettes and croissants.

I recommend getting the roast beef croissant. The croissant is so flaky and buttery, and it’s stuffed with savory roasted beef slices, sweet caramelized onions, and cherry tomatoes. It may seem small, but it can fill your stomach in no time!

If you have a sweet tooth like me, then you should order the tiramisu as well. It’s thick, creamy, and decadent!

Pro Tip:

  • Do you want to learn how to bake? TBB actually hosts a few baking classes every now and then.

Baker and Cook

— From: bakerandcooksg

Address: 87 Serangoon Garden Way

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—7:30 am to 9:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—7:30 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6585886857

Website

I first tried—and loved—Baker and Cook in Dempsey Hill, so I’m glad to discover that this cafe also has a location in Serangoon.

I’m quite fond of their sandwiches. Right now, my favorite is the Fully Loaded Chicken Sandwich because it has a sweet BBQ taste. The Smoked Salmon Bagelwich is another great choice; it’s rich and buttery, with a hint of tang from the sour cream.

As for drinks, there are many options—from coffee to freshly squeezed juices. I prefer the smoothies, especially the Very Berry, because they always hit the sweet spot for me.

Pro Tip:

  • If you order from the website, you can enjoy free delivery once the total exceeds S$50.

Dutch Colony Coffee Co.

— From: dutchcolony

Address: 151 Lorong Chuan, #01-08 NTP+

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +6569149685

Website

Dutch Colony Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster in Singapore, so you can enjoy high-quality brewed coffee here. There are also teas and juices, and I actually prefer them.

So far, I love the Crimson Sunset because it combines the earthiness of hibiscus and the mellow sweetness of strawberry cream.

When it comes to food, I love getting the honey garlic chicken because it’s crispy, sweet, and garlicky. I also get the key lime chia seed tart for dessert because it balances the sweet and tart flavors well.

Pro Tips:

  • Host your event (birthdays, corporate gatherings, and others) at this cafe!
  • Do you want to learn how to roast a coffee like a barista? You should join a Katalyst Coffee Academy class.

Cafe Gyoen

— From: cafegyoen

Address: 55 Serangoon Garden Way, Garden Estate

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Monday—10 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6596772188

Outside, Cafe Gyoen looks unremarkable, but inside, it’s an aesthetic delight. You see, the interior is made to look like the inside of a Japanese train, so you can pretend to be enjoying good food while on a long journey!

The menu is filled with Japanese classics as well. I love getting the Teishoku Big Breakfast Set because it’s loaded with many things, such as onigiri, tamagoyaki, miso soup, and more. Once I’m done eating, I’m ready to get on with my work!

Pro Tip:

  • This cafe tends to be the busiest on the weekends, especially in the morning. You might want to visit on a weekday instead to avoid getting stuck in a queue.

First Story Cafe

— From: forewordcoffeeroasters

Address: 149 Serangoon North Ave 1, #01-917

Operating Hours

  • Sunday to Thursday—9:30 am to 5 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—9:30 am to 6:30 pm

Contact Number: +6589490142

Website

First Story Cafe is the flagship cafe of Foreword Coffee. Here, you can find the brand’s specialty coffee, gelato, waffles, rice bowls, breakfast toasts, and more.

Usually, I only get light snacks and a cup of cappuccino. These snacks can be chicken wings, mini burritos, small quiches, and tarts. But when I’m really hungry, I order a rice bowl instead because it’s relatively cheap and makes me full in no time.

Pro Tips:

BakeOpedia X The Bread Rack Singapore

— From: thebreadracksg

Address: 9 Yio Chu Kang Rd, #01-54, Space@Kovan

Operating Hours

  • Sunday to Thursday—9 am to 5:30 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—9 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +6569695812

Website

The pastries available at BakeOpedia X The Bread Rack Singapore are usually so pretty that I always feel bad eating them. But once I get that first bite, there’s no turning back for me!

The cinnamon swirl is my ultimate recommendation here. It’s actually not as sweet as it looks, and I love how the cinnamon flavor is very subtle.

If you prefer something savory, get the truffle mushroom Danish. It’s drizzled with truffle oil and topped with lots of grated cheese, so every bite is a savory explosion.

Pro Tip:

  • Book a party or an intimate dinner with loved ones via this form.

Settlers Cafe by Mosanco

— From: settlerscafe

Address: Serangoon Rd, 562

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 3 am

Contact Number: +6580458000

Website

I confess: I actually don’t come to Settlers Cafe by Mosanco to work. I mean, I try, but I fail every time. And the reason for this is the fact that the cafe features tons of board games, so I end up playing for hours on end!

I love getting pasta here, and so far, my favorite is the chicken chop with Linguine. I tend to choose the tomato base sauce because I love its tangy, slightly acidic taste. I also really like aglio olio; it’s simple, but it hits the spot every time.

Pro Tip:

  • If you’re on a budget, the cafe has All Day Deals. These dishes are relatively cheaper, and they all come with free iced tea.

Kreme Cafe

— From: kreme.cafe

Address: 154 Serangoon North Ave 1, #01-404 Serangoon North Village

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday—8:30 am to 9:30 pm

Contact Number: +6562811119

What I love about Kreme Cafe is that the pastries and cakes here are always colorful and pretty. Plus, many of them are inspired by iconic Singaporean desserts like kaya and pandan cake!

I really like the kaya cake. The layers of pandan chiffon cake are so soft and fluffy, while the kaya custard in between the layers is smooth and decadent.

The yam cake is another one of my favorites. It’s layered just like the kaya cake (yam sponge cake and yam custard), but it’s less aromatic. It’s also not as sweet, which is actually a good thing because I can devour it without getting sick of it.

Pro Tip:

  • If you’re a Singaporean citizen, you’ll be happy to know that this cafe accepts CDC vouchers.

Oddity

— From: oddity.cafe

Address: 730 Upper Serangoon Rd, #01-01A Yeley Building

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday to Thursday—11 am to 10 pm
  • Friday—11 am to 11 pm
  • Saturday—9 am to 11 pm
  • Sunday—9 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6589051475

Oddity is more of a brunch spot than a cafe where you can work, but I still love coming here to do light work like reading my book or annotating a PDF file on my iPad.

While this spot features brunch classics, many of these dishes have unique twists. For example, the eggs benedict has a Korean spin since it comes with bulgogi, gochu-mayo sauce, and napa kimchi.

There’s also the Arigatoast, which is typical avocado toast with furikake, kizami nori, and togarashi spice. This is actually my favorite because it has a wonderful umami kick.

Pro Tip:

  • The outdoor seating area is pet-friendly, so feel free to bring your dog. You can even order your pet a pawpsicle!
