The Best Art Classes in Singapore That Nurture My Inner Child

When I was young, I used to dream of becoming an artist. I didn’t really care about what kind of art I wanted to specialize in, so I dabbled in everything—from illustration to painting to needlework!

Eventually, I stopped because my parents wanted me to pursue a career in something more practical, but now that I’m an adult with a stable income, I feel the urge to come back to my childhood dreams. So I started attending as many art classes as I could.

As it stands, these are the art studios that have healed my inner child. I love that they offer a wide variety of art classes, so I get to experiment to my heart’s desire!

My Art Space

Operating Hours: Thursday to Tuesday—10 am to 6 pm

Located on Orchard Road, My Art Space follows the Picasso Flow Process, which is all about integrating awareness of the world and creative exploration. This teaching approach meshes well with me, so the classes are always a fun time.

I took the introductory painting workshop, and I’m impressed with how thorough and well-rounded it was. It touched on so many things, such as drawing, color mixing, and basic acrylic and oil painting techniques, so I felt like a pretty good artist right after.

Tree Art

  • Tuesday—10 am to 5 pm
  • Wednesday to Friday—1:30 to 7:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—9 am to 7:30 pm

Tree Art is mostly known for offering art classes to children, but this studio also has options for adults. There are many different specializations as well—from traditional fine arts (e.g., sketching and oil painting) to digital art (e.g. graphic design).

I came here to take the watercolor class, and I had such a fun time. I like how the instructors emphasized the importance of patience when it comes to watercolor. I used to get frustrated easily, so I had to train myself to take my time in painting something.

Pro Tip:

Artify Studio is more than just an art studio; it’s also a haven. The minimalist interior design and the view of the trees and buildings outside just make for a peaceful space, and that’s why I love coming here to paint.

The guided workshops here cover a wide variety of mediums. I tried the palette knife painting because I’d never heard about this practice before, and it was such a unique experience. The end result has a nice textured look, reminiscent of old-school paintings.

Pro Tip:

Tuft Club

— From: tuft.club

Address: 57 Circular Rd, #03-01

Operating Hours

  • Monday, Wednesday to Friday—10 am to 7 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—10 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6580230237

If painting isn’t your favorite art form or you just want to learn a new artistic skill, then you might want to learn about tufting (a textile art that involves inserting thread into a primary base) instead. Tuft Club is the best place to learn this new skill!

The workshops here are mostly focused on making rugs, and you can choose what size you want to work on first. I did the 65×65 cm tufting workshop because I wanted a big rug, and I actually discovered that the process of tufting is such a relaxing experience.

If you find rug-making too complicated, you might want to start with a punch needle workshop instead. It’s still tufting in a way but on a much smaller scale.

Classical Realism SG

— From: drawpaintsg

Address: 20 Dublin Rd, Floor 2

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 9:30 pm

Contact Number: +6597314874

Website

If you ask me what my artistic style is, I’d probably say abstract or impressionist. But I also want to learn more about realist art, and whenever I feel this urge, I usually go to a class at Classical Realism SG.

The approach to teaching this art style is well-thought-out in my opinion. The instructors teach us about the different art materials and their uses, and then they inform us about the technical aspects and tips and tricks for using our perceptions to create realistic art.

Pro Tips:

  • If you’re feeling shy or you just want the instructor to be focused on you, you can book a private class.
  • Not sure if you want to commit to a full course? You can book a trial class first.

Avant-Garde Art Space

Address: 39 Jln Pemimpin, #04-03A Tailee Industrial Building

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—1 to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6580231554

Website

Avant-Garde Art Space is the perfect art studio for casual art lovers. The art classes here are themed, so you can choose the one with the theme you like.

I once came here with my little nieces and nephews, and we painted a ukulele. Another time, we painted a bear figurine and a keychain bear. I saw that this studio also offers a leather craft workshop, and I’m considering taking that in the future.

Pro Tip:

  • This studio has multiple locations, and some of them have unique perks (for example, you get free beverages and pastries or you can bring your pet).

Little Artists Art Studio

— From: littleartists_sg

Address: 15 Siglap Rd, #01-07 The Mandarin Gardens

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Thursday—9 am to 7:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—9:30 am to 5:30 pm

Contact Number: +6564490960

Website

Even though Little Artists Art Studio focuses on children (hence the name), this place also offers classes for adults. And you have many options, too—from sketching to oil painting!

I really enjoyed the portraiture classes. Somehow, it never occurred to me that it would be tricky trying to draw a picture of a person—even myself!

Aside from portraits, this studio has classes on landscapes and still life. I want to try some of them in the future.

Located in Singapore’s city center, the Visual Arts Center is perfect for anyone who is serious about art. After all, this school offers professional courses for various art styles and mediums!

I only took the drawing and sketching course here, which was so helpful. We covered so many aspects, including topics that I’m not normally interested in (e.g., urban landscape and fashion illustration), so I truly think it’s worth it.

Aside from sketching and painting, you can find specialized courses here, such as professional manga drawing and graffiti spray painting.

Pro Tips:

Heartroom Gallery

— From: heartroomgallery

Address: 48A Dorset Rd, #24-119

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday and Wednesday—10 am to 5 pm
  • Thursday and Friday—10 am to 9:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—10 am to 5:30 pm

Website

While I do like a structured art class, sometimes I still go for the opposite. That’s exactly what I get when I come to Heartroom Gallery, and I always have a fun and relaxing experience every time.

I booked the folk art painting class because I love how whimsical and magical it looks. But there are also other classes offered here, and I’m considering trying out the ones on ceramic art, clay art, and calligraphy (both modern and brush pen).

Pro Tip:

  • This studio offers art jamming sessions for all kinds of special events (e.g., birthdays, team building, and date nights).

Minerva Fine Art

Address: 277 Orchard Rd, #04-02 Orchard Gateway

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—10:30 am to 9 pm

  • Sunday—10 am to 9 pm

Conveniently located inside Orchard Gateway, a popular shopping mall on Orchard Road, Minerva Fine Art is another great choice for casual art enjoyers. This studio accepts both adults and children; in fact, the youngest student here was a 3-year-old!

I love learning about how to paint panoramas and murals here because that’s a topic I don’t see tackled often. I also tried the printmaking class, which was a lot harder and more labor-intensive than I expected.

Pro Tip:

  • If you don’t have any art supplies, you can stock up at the studio’s shop.

The Visionary ART Workshop

— From: thevisionaryartworkshop

Address: Nassim Rd

Operating Hours

  • Saturday to Thursday—9:30 am to 10 pm
  • Friday—10:30 am to 8 pm

Contact Number: +6597543149

Website

What I love about The Visionary ART Workshop is that classes here don’t feel like classes at school. Instead, they feel like casual hangouts with a good friend who just happens to be knowledgeable and passionate about art.

In fact, the setting really adds to that feeling because it looks like the inside of a house. All of us students are cramped in a small yet cozy room, and we’re sketching on a big wooden table while the instructor is giving a lecture about technique.

Pro Tip:

Artlette Art Studio

— From: artlettecolours

Address: 301 Upper Thomson Rd, #03-18 Thomson Plaza

Operating Hours

  • Monday, Thursday, and Friday—1 to 9 pm
  • Tuesday and Wednesday—11 am to 9 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—9:15 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +6581285430

Website

The curriculum at Artlette Art Studio is a balance between creativity and technical aspects, so even if you’re only a hobbyist, you’ll finish the course feeling like a professional artist.

While I prefer traditional art in print (and this studio offers classes in this field), I’m also interested in digital art. So, that’s what I chose to study here, and I actually managed to master the app Procreate even though I found it so intimidating and complex at first.

Pro Tips:

PaintBlush

Address: 73 Dunlop St, #02-00

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—1 to 10 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6588837211

Website

Who says you can’t learn how to paint while drinking a glass of wine? If this sounds like a fun activity, then you should head to PaintBlush, which is located in Little India!

If you’re new to painting, then you should take the guided art jamming session so that you won’t feel lost the entire time. But if you’re already skilled, the unguided session might work better. That way, you’re free to make a mess and laugh with your friends!

If you don’t drink alcohol, don’t worry because there are non-alcoholic options as well. In fact, my friends and I actually prefer bubble tea instead of wine.

Pro Tip:

Artzillions Art Studio

— From: artzillionssg

Address: 1187 Upper Serangoon Rd, #02-11 The Midtown

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday to Thursday—10 am to 6 pm
  • Friday—10 am to 9:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—9 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +6587388305

Website

While Artzillions Art Studio has classes on painting, it also has options for lesser-known art forms, especially making of mosaics and clay flowers. I tried both of these classes, and I had such a blast!

It turns out that making mosaics and clay flowers is a strangely zen-like experience. Perhaps it’s the monotonous process of putting in tiles or molding the clay to my desired shape, but whatever it is, I’m always at peace when taking this class!

What I love about The Fort Studios is that you can have your own personalized art class. This means that the curriculum is tailored to your specific needs, and you can take the lessons at your own pace.

If you prefer learning with other people, the studio also has group classes. Group classes are great because you get to socialize with other people. Plus, it’s nice to see what they’re making because you’ll be inspired to do your best as well.

Pro Tip:

  • This studio also offers other kinds of services, such as team bonding workshops, parties, and art commissions.

Artee World Studio

Address: 420 North Bridge Rd, #03-37 North Bridge Centre

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +6593840090

Website

For people living in the city center, Artee World Studio is the place to go. Plus, this studio welcomes both children and adults, so you don’t have to feel insecure about being too old to learn a new skill.

You have several mediums to choose from. There are the classics—acrylic, watercolor, and oil—but there are also mediums that are not as well known, such as mandala drawing and mixed media.

I personally tried mixed media just out of curiosity, and it definitely blew me away. Employing multiple media in one artwork is challenging yet fun!
