A Guide to the Secrets of the Haunted Hillview Mansion

If you’re into urban legends and ghost stories, Hillview Mansion is a place you might have heard about, but it’s best to admire it from afar. It’s not an official tourist spot, but explorers and urban adventurers are drawn to the site, fascinated by its mystery.

I remember hearing all sorts of spooky tales about it growing up, and I finally decided to explore the mystery behind this abandoned relic. Let me tell you its eerie history and hidden secrets.

History

Hillview Mansion, also known as the Ghost Mansion, is an abandoned, unfinished mansion located in the Hillview area of Singapore.

It was once part of a plan for a luxurious private residence, but construction halted abruptly in the 1980s due to various reported reasons, including financial troubles and rumours of paranormal activity.

Over the years, the mansion has become somewhat of a local curiosity due to its eerie atmosphere and overgrown surroundings. However, it’s important to note that the property is on private land, so visiting without permission is not allowed, and it’s not safe to explore.

How to Get There

Closest MRT: Take the Downtown Line (DTL) and alight at Hillview MRT Station (DT3). Exit the station and head towards Hillview Avenue, where you can catch a bus (like bus 173) or take a 10-minute walk along Hillview Avenue towards Jalan Dermawan where the mansion is.

Closest bus station: Alight at the nearest bus stop, Opposite Hillview House (Bus Stop No. 43121) along Hillview Avenue. This bus stop is served by bus numbers 173 and 176.

From the bus stop, walk along Hillview Avenue towards Jalan Dermawan, which is about a 10-minute stroll.

Closest car parks: You can park at HillV2 Mall or The Rail Mall, both of which offer ample parking spaces and are just a short drive away from Hillview Mansion. HillV2 Mall has an indoor car park with hourly rates, while The Rail Mall offers both open-air and sheltered parking. From either location, it’s about a 10 to 15-minute walk to Hillview Mansion.

Keep in mind that parking near the mansion itself is not allowed.

What It Looks Like Now

Hillview Mansion now stands as a crumbling, overgrown structure, with walls covered in moss and vines reclaiming what’s left of its facade. Its windows are shattered, and the property is surrounded by dense vegetation, adding to its eerie, abandoned feel.

Once envisioned as a luxurious home, it now looks more like a ghostly relic, with rusted gates and a driveway swallowed by weeds. The mansion’s unfinished state and dilapidated appearance make it look frozen in time, like a haunted house straight out of a horror film.

Tips When Visiting

  • Admire from a distance: Avoid trespassing and appreciate the mansion from a safe distance since it’s private property.
  • Visit during daylight hours: The area can get quite dark and overgrown, so it’s best to go during the day for better visibility and safety.
  • Wear proper footwear: The surrounding terrain is uneven and can be slippery, so sturdy shoes are recommended.
  • Respect the neighbours: Keep noise levels down as the mansion is situated near residential areas.
  • Visit nearby attractions: Add the following to your itinerary to make the most of your trip: HillV2 Mall, the Former Ford Factory, and the nearby WWII relics (old bunkers and remnants of the Choa Chu Kang Battle Site).
