8 Best Mental Health & Counselling Services in Singapore For Your Inner Peace

Credentials and specialisation - Are the counsellors/psychologists properly licensed and trained? Do they have expertise in areas like anxiety, depression, trauma, couples therapy, or youth counselling?

Approach and accessibility - What modalities do they use (CBT, mindfulness, psychodynamic, etc.), and do they offer both in-person and online sessions? Are they culturally sensitive, especially for expats and multilingual clients?

Cost and transparency - Are session fees clearly stated and within the typical SGD range? Do they offer subsidies, packages, or sliding-scale options for affordability?

Environment and support - Is the clinic or setting safe, confidential, and welcoming? Do they provide follow-up care, group therapy, or EAP programs for companies and families?

I remember the first time I considered getting counselling services. It felt overwhelming to choose where to begin, which didn’t help with my fragile mental state back then.

Between private clinics, NGOs, and specialised services, the options were many, but clarity was scarce.

There’s support for anxiety, a safe space for couples, and culturally sensitive therapy for expats in the Lion City. Knowing who offers what can make that first step less daunting, so we gathered the best options for you.

How much are counselling services for mental health in Singapore?

Counselling in Singapore typically costs S$80 to S$250 per session, with senior psychologists or specialised clinics charging from S$200 and over S$300. More affordable options are available through NGOs and non-profits, where subsidised or sliding-scale fees can start from S$35 to S$80.

MediShield Life does not cover outpatient counselling or psychotherapy, though it does provide limited coverage for inpatient psychiatric treatment.

Some private insurance plans and Integrated Shield Plans may include partial mental health benefits, while certain employer medical schemes or Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) also extend counselling coverage, but this varies by policy.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM–8 PM

I walked into The Listening Ear Counselling and Consultancy because a friend said it felt like a safe space. From the first session, I felt they took time to actually understand me before offering anything.

They offer therapy for individuals, couples, families, LGBTQIA+ issues, trauma, and addiction. On credentials and specialisation, Karl deSouza leads with over 20 years’ cross-cultural experience and is registered with SAC.

Their approach is pluralistic. They blend cognitive, trauma-informed, somatic work, and systems approaches, and offer both in-person and online sessions.

I like that, because they tailor to cultural differences, expats and cross-cultural couples have voiced that they felt heard.

Session rates are around S$250 in person and S$200 for virtual sessions. There are additional surcharges for after-hours or during travel, which should help clients in budgeting around their schedules.

During the session, I was reassured that they were clear about what we’d do each week. The environment felt safe, warm, and confidential—the kind where I didn’t have to worry about being judged.

My only issue is that it can take time to just get a slot, which might be frustrating if you’re feeling like you’re at a breaking point. And I did spend a pretty penny on counselling.

Pros

  • Broad specialisms under one roof
  • Strong ethical/policy framework
  • Culturally attuned therapist leadership
  • Transparent and fixed pricing

Cons

  • Higher cost relative to mid-tier services
  • Slots could be limited

He shows genuine interest in each person’s journey

As a fellow therapist, I can say that Karl provides a truly safe and non-judgmental space. He fosters a respectful and open environment where feelings and thoughts can be freely explored. What stands out most is the genuine interest he shows in each person’s journey, gently supporting you in developing new and healthier ways of thinking.

He is a highly qualified therapist with ample experience

Karl, first and foremost, is a sincere, caring and compassionate individual – qualities I believe are fundamental for this type of work. Beyond that, he is a highly qualified therapist with ample experience. This combination creates a supportive space, an opportunity for healing.

I’m really grateful that our paths crossed

“I met Rose as a teenager and she has been my counsellor for close to 10 years. I truly attribute a large part of my growth and healing to her compassionate, trauma-informed approach and professional commitment to her clients. Compassionate, wise, and profoundly skilled in her practice

“I’ve been seeing Joselyn for over a year during one of the most difficult chapters in my life. Her depth of expertise in schema therapy has helped me unpack long-standing patterns and understand myself in ways I never could before. Her insights have been truly transformative for my personal growth.
When my spouse and I turned to her for marriage counseling, she was equally exceptional. Joselyn guided us through a rocky period in our new marriage and gave us tools to improve our communication, strengthen our connection, and rebuild trust. We left each session feeling heard, supported, and more in sync.
Joselyn is compassionate, wise, and profoundly skilled in her practice. I can’t imagine having navigated these challenges without her. Highly recommend to anyone seeking genuine support and expert guidance.”

A workmate called me late one night and said she’d started counselling at the Singapore Counselling Centre (SCC). She sounded cautiously hopeful, which was a huge relief at the time, as I’ve witnessed her go near a state of breakdown.

The counsellor she was paired with seemed qualified and calm, and she said SCC handles everything from personal crises to relationship issues. I dug into their credentials: their practitioners are clearly listed and experienced.

They don’t limit themselves to just “talk therapy;” they offer counselling in multiple languages (nine, including dialects!) and both in-person and video formats.

As for cost and transparency, the published fee for individuals is S$180 per session. They also handle couples, youth, and family sessions, with package deals for all. Though it isn’t cheap, my colleague felt it was fair for what she got.

It’s good to know that SCC also runs workshops and peer consultations and has become a hub for professional development for counsellors, so there’s a culture of growth, not just client work.

My friend said she senses they’re less transactional and more invested in long-term care.

However, it’s still pricey for many, especially without subsidies (S$180 is premium in the local landscape). Operating and counselling hours are also limited, so the flexibility isn’t always there.

Pros

  • Institutional backing and professional network
  • Multilingual, multi-format settings
  • Published fee transparency
  • Complementary workshops and community engagement

Cons

  • Still a premium cost for general users
  • Limited flexibility in scheduling

I feel much better

Thank you, Dr John, for sharing your counselling experience and knowledge. I’ve been going through a bit of a low point recently and have been carrying some emotions. After listening to your sharing, I feel much better. I’ll try to practice the skills you mentioned in class and train my mindset, hoping that I can keep getting better.

Sunday, 1–6 PM

Because of a death in her family, my best pal went to Emotional Wellness Counselling Singapore when she felt stuck in her grief. She confessed EMDR was tough at first; the tears came quickly, but the counsellor didn’t rush her healing.

The lead counsellor, Carol Goh, has nearly two decades of experience in therapy and coaching. My friend said that it gave her confidence, especially since trauma and grief were listed as their special focus areas.

She tried both in-person and virtual sessions, which made it easier for those times she wasn’t up to leaving home. The EMDR approach, she explained, helped her process memories that had been too painful to face before.

A note of caution, though: she found EMDR emotionally intense and sometimes moving faster than she was ready for. It’s a good thing my bestie appreciated the structured sessions and felt the environment was private and safe enough to let go.

Another issue she raised was that, because it’s a small boutique practice, getting urgent or last-minute slots was nearly impossible.

Pros

  • Use of integrative and evidence-based modalities
  • Bilingual (English and Mandarin)
  • Hybrid delivery (in-person and online)
  • Cosy boutique environment in a convenient location

Cons

  • Deep-dive modalities can feel too intense
  • Limited slots

The EMDR sessions have been especially transformative

I’m truly grateful to have met Carol. From our very first session, I felt heard, hopeful, and deeply supported. She fosters a safe and welcoming space that encourages me to openly share my anxiety and bravely explore difficult emotions and experiences. After every session, I leave feeling lighter, clearer, and better equipped to navigate life’s challenges. The EMDR sessions have been especially transformative, helping me reprocess past stories and find the courage to rewrite the narrative I once told myself. I’ve started noticing meaningful shifts in how I feel, think, and respond to my life. If you’re seeking a therapist who genuinely listens and guides you toward becoming your best self, I wholeheartedly recommend Carol.

Carol created a warm and supportive space where I felt comfortable opening up

My counselling session was a really positive experience. Carol created a warm and supportive space where I felt comfortable opening up. She is professional, attentive, and helped me gain clarity on my thoughts and feelings. I left the session feeling heard, understood, and encouraged to keep working on my personal growth.

Saturday, 9 AM–1 PM

When I was struggling with career direction, I went to Insightful Counselling and Training, hoping to untangle the anxiety around it. In hindsight, I’m glad I did.

Insightful has a team that’s fluent in English, Mandarin, and Hindi, and they position themselves as a professional wellness centre offering sessions for trauma, relationships, life transitions, and more.

The counsellor I was assigned to used a mix of EMDR, CBT, Gestalt, and even Brainspotting, which felt more active than the usual talk therapy.

I like that they listened to me more than jumped in with advice, in an environment that felt both calm and private.

Due to my unruly schedule at the time, I couldn’t commit to a fixed session type. Good thing they offer both online and in-person counselling, which fit my calendar (and sanity) better.

But because they run several modalities, the consistency of therapist style can vary. The experience may shift between sessions.

Moreover, given the varied modalities and niche offerings, expect the cost per session to be above average (up to S$260 for after-hours sessions), especially for career or life transition work.

Pros

  • Wide modality offering
  • Multilingual service
  • Option for cheaper S$30 in-person Sunday sessions with interns
  • In-person and online sessions

Cons

  • Steep price for premium modalities
  • Therapeutic style and rapport can vary from session to session

She has completely changed my perception of thinking

I am truly grateful to have Ms Siddhi Raman as my counsellor. She is always there to listen to me, whether it’s about my family issues or career-related concerns. Her guidance has helped me see that there is always a way to solve problems, no matter how difficult they may seem. She has completely changed my perception of thinking and helped me develop a more positive outlook on life. I deeply appreciate her patience, understanding, and constant support.

I immediately felt comfortable and truly listened to

I had a really lovely experience speaking with Mhairi. She brought such warmth and attentiveness to our conversation that I immediately felt comfortable and truly listened to. Her genuine care and presence made a real difference, and I deeply appreciated how thoughtfully she engaged with me.

8. Talk Your Heart Out

Address: 6 Shenton Way, OUE Downtown 2

Contact: [email protected]

Hours: Open 24 hours

My brother and his wife grew to dread the tension brewing between them at home, so I nudged them to try couples counselling at Talk Your Heart Out before things escalated.

They were admittedly desperate at first, not hopeful, and the first few sessions left them raw. But they did admit that talking in therapy felt safer than before.

From what they told me, the therapists at TYHO are well-vetted, with master’s or equivalent qualifications, and the clinic screens for empathy, non-judgment, and cultural sensitivity.

They had options for both in-person and online sessions, which helped during a bad week when they couldn’t commute.

The cost was relatively transparent, too; each therapist lists their rates from S$130 upwards, for different concerns like relationships, grief, or trauma. My brother said it felt like paying for real care, not a half-baked quick fix.

My sister-in-law said they sometimes got suggested worksheets or relational exercises between sessions, reinforcing what was addressed.

Beyond core sessions, TYHO also offers EAP services for companies and a platform model connecting clients to a broader therapist pool.

But because it’s a platform with many therapists, consistency in therapy style and rapport varies: one week, she felt understood, another week, less so.

Moreover, rates for senior or specialised therapists rise quickly, which can make long-term counselling expensive.

Pros

  • Strong therapist screening and values alignment
  • Flexible delivery modes
  • Transparent profiles and starting rates
  • Therapy platform and employee assistance programs

Cons

  • Therapy consistency may vary across platforms
  • Rates escalate for senior/specialist therapists

She provides a safe space to open up

Glenn is warm and caring. She provides a safe space to open up and be honest with my partner, and she’s observant about my feelings during the session as well. She explains the process well and tasks me and my partner with practical homework we can do at home to work on rebuilding our relationship.

– Juliana Tan, Google Review

She makes me feel like I can confide in her

My therapist, Syamimi, is calm and understanding. She makes me feel like I can confide in her, but at the same time, she doesn’t rush me to tell everything. I find the sessions with her helpful to make sense of my thinking and feelings, and look forward to talking to her. I also love that the sessions are very customised to our needs, and they have the option of online sessions, which are more flexible with my schedule.
