Go from Panic to Pass with the 5 Best Math Tutors in Singapore

Qualifications and track record - We checked the tutor’s academic background, teaching experience, and whether they have a strong record of helping students improve in Math.

Level and subject fit - Do they actually specialise in the right level, whether that’s elementary, high school, college, or University Math?

Pricing and value - We compared hourly rates and package fees against what the tutor offers, so we’re not overpaying for support that doesn’t match our child’s needs.

Availability and lesson format - We looked at how flexible they are with scheduling, and if they offer in-person or online sessions that suit the student’s learning style.

People always say that Singaporeans are naturally good at math, so I felt a bit paiseh when my son started struggling with the basics.

As a concerned parent, I quickly realised finding the right math tutor for him matters more than just assuming he’d catch up on his own.

That’s exactly why I put this review together. It aims to help parents like me choose the best math tutors in Singapore based on experience, credentials, teaching style, and what their child actually needs.

If your child needs help with other subjects, here are other excellent tutors in the area.

How much does a math tutor in Singapore charge?

In the Lion City, math tutors usually charge around S$25 to S$70 an hour for primary school, S$35 to S$100 for secondary, and S$50 to S$150 for JC/IB.

The rates will depend on whether the tutor is part-time, full-time, or MOE-trained.

If you go with a tutor centre instead, fees are often charged monthly, with many Math classes starting from about S$170 to S$468 per month. There may be extra registration or material fees.

For a young child like mine, I would roughly budget S$200 to over S$500 a month for regular Math help.

1. Tutor City Home Tuition Agency

Website

As a parent, I found Tutor City useful straightaway because I didn’t have to dig through random listings on my own. They sent me tutor profiles fast (within 24 hours!), and their matching service has no agency fee for parents.

I liked the range of tutor types, from undergraduates to full-time tutors and MOE school teachers. It meant I could match someone to my son’s pace and level instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all choice.

The centre also covers face-to-face home tuition and online formats, which helps if your child learns better in a specific setup. For maths in particular, they’re a good fit for parents who want flexible scheduling and more personalised help at home.

Their tutor profiles mention their teaching style, experience, and even progress reports, which made it easier for me to shortlist someone who could adjust to my son’s learning style rather than just drill worksheets.

Pricing also felt fairly transparent, since Tutor City publishes general hourly ranges instead of making parents ask blindly. It makes it less of a hassle to decide whether a part-time or full-time tutor fits the budget and the child’s needs.

That said, it’s still an agency, not a single teaching centre, so the experience can vary depending on the tutor you eventually choose.

Pros

  • Fast profile matching
  • No agency fee for parents
  • Wide tutor mix
  • Flexible setup

Cons

  • Quality can vary by tutor
  • No fixed in-house curriculum
  • Rates can climb with stronger profiles

Very happy with the progress

Highly recommend this agency! They are incredibly efficient—I received a shortlist and found an excellent tutor within just 2 days of submitting my request. My child has been having lessons for a month now and is very happy with the progress. Excellent service!

My son is now benefiting from great coaching

I had a specific tutor need – I wanted a math tutor specialised in helping students prepare for SASMO and Math Olympiad. Tutor City gave me multiple recommendations within a few hours. We tried one of their recommended tutors and really liked him. My son is now benefiting from great coaching with a tutor who understands his learning needs. A great experience!

Apex Math Tuition stood out to my sister because her daughter didn’t just need more practice; she needed someone who could explain hard Math concepts to her in a way that finally clicked.

The centre focuses on EMath and AMath for Secondary 2 to 4 students, and it is led by Mr Au, a former school teacher with more than a decade of tutoring experience. She was reassured mostly by just how personalised it all sounded.

The classes are limited to just one student, so teaching can be adjusted in real time to suit the child’s pace, weak spots, and learning style instead of forcing a generic lesson. The online format is useful for parents who want direct communication and closer progress monitoring, too.

There’s a trial lesson, no registration fee, no material charges, no deposit, and students get in-house worksheets, practice tests, schoolwork support, and access to video tutorials for extra enrichment.

It’s a good fit for families wanting focused, structured help with difficult secondary-level Math. The main catch is that Apex is quite specialised, so it’s not particularly suited for younger children or higher-level learners.

Pros

  • Very focused math setup
  • Near-private attention
  • Lower upfront commitment
  • Extra learning support

Cons

  • Not ideal for younger kids
  • Less of a big centre experience

Our eldest child achieved A1 for A-Math in 2022!

We have been with Apex tuition for several years and have seen amazing results: our eldest child achieved A1 for A-Math in 2022, and our second daughter has just scored A1 for both E-Math and A-Math in the 2025 O-Levels! We are incredibly grateful to Mr Alvin for his unwavering dedication and expertise. What truly stands out is the strong foundation built during the lessons; he ensures students deeply understand the concepts, not forgetting the activities and treats during the lessons that kept them motivated. Because of this, Math became my daughter’s most confident and enjoyable subject, and she was well-prepared and calm when taking her O-Level Math last year. Thank you, Mr Alvin.

Most passionate and generous teacher!

Hands down the best teacher ever. Not only does Mr Au teach the solutions to the problem, but he also makes you understand it, so it gets in your head forever and makes new questions easier to solve. Scored A1 for both E and A math from a fail! Also, there are free snacks every lesson! And before my O levels, Mr Au invited every sec4 student to come to the tuition centre for free from 9 am-9 pm to study, with lunch and dinner and koi given. Most passionate and generous teacher!

My colleague wanted weekly Math tuition for her son, and preferred a personal rather than a big-chain centre for it. Mathmunchies was a good fit for her; it’s run by Miss Lynn, who has been tutoring since 2006 and teaches both local and international students.

She liked the setup, which she describes as flexible rather than rigid. Mathmunchies offers both physical and online tuition, which makes it easier to match lessons to a child’s schedule and preferred way of learning.

For students like her son who require difficult concepts to be broken down in a more visual or digestible way, it’s a good match. Miss Lynn also creates her own Math notes and worksheets, so the support is more customised than relying on assessment books.

It looks especially suited to kids who benefit from steady one-to-one guidance. My colleague’s son says it feels more focused and less crowded than the other larger tuition centres he’s attended.

However, the smaller, more intimate setup means there could be fewer slots available, as well. Popular timings (like after-school hours) may be harder to secure for weekly lessons.

Pros

  • Personalised and tutor-led
  • Physical and online options
  • Custom notes and worksheets

Cons

  • Smaller-scale setup = fewer slots
  • May feel more informal than bigger centre systems

She is so passionate and very fun

The teacher is a 10/10. She is so passionate and very fun ( as long as you don’t do stupid things in her class, lah,) and immediately after 2 months, she helped me get from a B3 in Math to my first ever A1 in Math in secondary school! I am very thankful for the help she has provided, especially her notes, which she spends time and effort putting in. Her classes are the only thing that makes me look forward to Saturday. Through her guidance, not only have I found it easier to do math, but she has also made me love the subject. So if anyone is failing math, you should probably enroll for this tuition!

She can help her students grasp the concepts

Ms Lynn was introduced to us by a classmate of my girl last year. From borderline passes during P4 and P5 Term 1, my girl has been steadily improving and is now achieving AL1-AL2, all thanks to Ms Lynn! She can help her students grasp the concepts, and is also a very dedicated teacher. Despite being heavily pregnant during EOY2024, she worked tirelessly and ensured that the students were well-prepared for their exams. Thank you and Lynn!

My neighbour’s son was in full H2 Math panic mode, stuck at a U and needing someone who could pull him up fast. JC A Level H2 Math Tuition felt like a serious option for him, because Mr Goh specialises only in H2 Math!

He has more than 10 years of experience, and teaches small-group classes instead of trying to cover every subject under the sun. The targeted setup is a good fit for students who need the concept explained to them properly, and not just with worksheets.

The young man learned to master concepts without rote learning and had resources like videos, notes, past-year papers, topical practice questions, and summaries for extra support.

It was a practical choice for him, since he’s a busy JC student, so the WhatsApp outside lessons helped when questions popped up after class. The classes average about 5 students and feel close enough for more customised help, even though it’s not full one-to-one.

It’s worth checking out for students aiming for a real grade jump, and who do better with structured weekly tuition plus focused exam prep. It’s especially appealing for families hoping for a rescue mission rather than just minor polishing.

Do note that it’s a highly specialised centre, and is not the place for younger students or anyone needing broader multi-subject tuition.

Pros

  • Proper H2 Math specialist
  • Small classes
  • Strong extra resource bank
  • WhatsApp support outside class

Cons

  • Too narrow for non-JC students
  • Not one-by-one by default

My daughter slowly but surely progressed

Mr Goh helped my daughter to achieve an A for her JC H2 Maths. She went to him by the end of J1 with a barely passing grade. With his encouragement and rigour in the subject, my daughter slowly but surely progressed. I am extremely happy with her results and am grateful to her wonderful tutor.

Enabled her to learn much from you and gain confidence in H2 maths

Mr Goh, like to first express our heartfelt appreciation to your tutelage and coaching given to Chloe, which enabled her to learn much from you and gain confidence in H2 maths despite the short few months with you. Most importantly, after Chloe’s feedback on her rich learning experience with you after 1st 2 lessons, we reckoned that it would be worth the effort to travel as long as this tuition worked best for her.

I have a cousin who needed pre-university Math help. Tim Gan looked like a strong fit for him because it’s built for serious secondary and JC students, rather than trying to be everything for everyone.

The centre offers H1, H2, IB, IP, A Math, and E Math, with MOE-trained tutors and physical classes in Bukit Timah, Jurong East, and Tampines…plus online options!

It offers structured support, which he needed. Students get access to the TGM Study Hub, recorded lessons, a large question bank, internal assessments, mock exams, and 24/7 video solutions.

It’s a great setup for pre-university students who need more than just one class a week. He also likes that the pricing starts from S$200 per H2 lesson, and already includes materials and registration in some programmes, plus a no-obligation trial lesson.

It seems especially useful for learners who benefit from guided revision, smaller classes, and explanations that can be revisited at any time. That said, the method seems more system-driven than ultra-bespoke.

Pros

  • Strong pre-university focus
  • Huge revision ecosystem
  • Multiple convenient branches
  • Hybrid lesson setup

Cons

  • Less bespoke than a private tutor
  • Not built for younger kids

He is someone who always believes in his students

Mr Gan is a very detailed and clear Math teacher who teaches not just content but also useful tricks, like showing us how to identify key clues in questions, which really helped improve our problem-solving skills. His online portal includes recordings of past lessons and topics that were especially helpful for revising older J1 topics. He is also very responsive to messages, replying promptly whenever I needed clarification so I could continue working on my questions without delay. When I struggled with a difficult problem, he would always encourage me to keep trying, and he is someone who always believes in his students. He definitely made H2 math much more manageable and built our confidence!

There will never be a mundane lesson with his presence

Mr Gan is an excellent tutor, going above and beyond to guide and lead his students into excelling in Mathematics. His friendly and enthusiastic approach towards H2 Mathematics sparks interest, evoking a joyful and encouraging learning environment in his classrooms. There will never be a mundane lesson with his presence; it is highly recommended for any students who are struggling with JC Maths.
