Speak confidently with the 5 best English language courses in Singapore

Teaching Qualifications: We looked for centers that employ native speakers and educators with proper certifications like a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA). This ensures that you receive high-quality guidance from professionals who understand the nuances of the language.

Class Size: Group limits are a massive factor because crowded rooms often mean less talking time for individuals. We favored institutions that keep their class numbers small so everyone gets personalized attention and speaking practice.

Practical Application: A good curriculum should go beyond memorizing grammar rules to actually surviving real-world conversations. We searched for programs that actively promote everyday speaking skills and integrate authentic materials into their daily lessons.

Student Support: Learning a new language is stressful, so having clear administrative assistance matters immensely. We evaluated how well these schools handle makeup classes and general orientation for international learners.

Whether you’re an office worker aiming to crush corporate presentations or a parent who wants to prepare your child’s communication skills for IB school, finding the right support makes all the difference.

The best English language academies in Singapore can help you or your child build the necessary technical skills to speak fluently. I’ve explored the most reliable schools that meet current regulatory and educational standards so you can enrol wisely.

I specifically looked for courses that will help with IELTS/TOEFL test preparation, Business English, and conversational enrichment. Let’s dive into the standout places that genuinely want to help you speak with confidence.

During the winter vacation, my children had an English camp here, and there was a kind Korean staff who is good at English, so I could enjoy class, and my second child, who was reluctant to speak English, enjoyed it so much and became interested in English.

They provide complimentary makeup sessions if you accidentally miss a class due to a busy work week.

Moreover, since they’re located just steps away from the MRT station, commuting for an evening lesson is hassle-free for working professionals.

I also appreciate that the school keeps their group sizes remarkably tiny, usually between three and ten participants, so you can count on plenty of individual attention and support.

They also use the Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) teaching method, a structured approach that actively locks in your grammar skills and boosts vocabulary retention during discussions.

The only real downside is that they exclusively offer part-time studies, meaning students seeking intensive full-time language immersion will need to look for a different provider.

Challenging and Motivating Language Lessons

Taking classes here is both challenging and motivating. Being in a positive language environment, I can truly feel my progress. I once asked a former student who had completed the course about his experience. He mentioned that after six months of classes, combined with watching English movies outside of class, he saw significant improvement in his English conversation skills. This gave me a lot of confidence. Both Sam and Jacquie, though different in teaching styles, are very patient. I look forward to continuing my studies and reaching a level where I can communicate fluently in English as soon as possible.

Great Atmosphere for Speaking English

I really enjoyed the class! The students were close, and the teachers were friendly and, of course, professional. The classroom atmosphere was great, which made me feel relaxed and comfortable speaking English. I also had the chance to make friends in the class. I truly appreciate the support from the teachers and staff!

Finding a program balancing academic rigor with real-world application is tough, but studying a syllabus crafted directly by Oxford University Press provides a phenomenal head start.

English Explorer uses this globally recognized curriculum while employing a diverse mix of native speakers and educators holding a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate.

When I dropped by their downtown campus recently, I liked seeing how they offer a complimentary placement test to guarantee every student begins at the ideal proficiency level.

They also go beyond traditional academics by hosting community networking meetups, giving learners a relaxed environment to practice conversational skills.

Moreover, their small group dynamic, capped at six participants, ensures a highly focused atmosphere for everyone.

However, it’s worth noting that their facility is closed on Fridays, which might disrupt your momentum.

Pros

  • Curriculum is backed by Oxford University Press
  • Employs CELTA or TESOL certified instructors
  • Classes are limited to just six participants
  • Courses are eligible for local LifeSG credits

Cons

Effective and Fruitful English Lessons

I attended Teacher Susan’s class. It was an amazing and interesting course which taught me how to pronounce, to write, to understand and also to use the right words to communicate with others.

At first, I thought that English is difficult. However attending Teacher Susan’s classes has made me think the opposite way. I’ve seen some improvement in myself. I’ve even received some compliments from customers on how good I am explaining to them. My friends do see the way I’m talking to them is improving. The effect that Teacher Susan has had on me is really fruitful.

Enjoyable and Beneficial Learning Experience

I have benefited a lot by having this English course with Teacher Susan, especially pronunciation, idioms, and business English. I also liked the group discussion. Every time I learnt something new from my classmates. Overall. I liked and enjoyed the journey of learning with Teacher Susan.

Excellent Teachers and Teaching Methods

I’ve been at Canadian for 5, maybe 6 months, and I love it! The teachers are excellent, the teaching methods are great, and the materials are very good too. I’m improving my English all the time. Elena is an excellent teacher, very patient, and she makes learning easy and fun. I highly recommend the course.

Highly Recommended Professional TESOL Course

I am currently taking my TESOL course with the Canadian Education College and I highly recommend it. The course requires students to have a good command of English, but it doesn’t mean only ‘super good’ English speakers are qualified to take the course. The instructor was an experienced English-language teacher who provided much guidance to the TESOL students, so non-native English speakers do not need to worry. The staff are really friendly too!

5. British Education Centre

british-education-centre

Website: bec.edu.sg

Address: 300 Beach Road, The Concourse #20-01/02/07, #33-05/06

Contact: +65 62210603 | [email protected]

Hours: Sunday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Diving straight into heavy grammar rules can feel overwhelming, which is why focusing heavily on word stress and rhythm first is a brilliant way to develop natural speaking habits.

British Education Centre employs this exact technique in their foundational courses, ensuring you grasp the subtle nuances of communication before tackling complex sentences.

They actually step away from traditional textbooks for their International English Language Testing System (IELTS) preparation, integrating authentic materials like real news articles and engaging podcasts.

This integrated approach combines listening and speaking simultaneously, perfectly mirroring how language functions in everyday life.

For absolute beginners, they also target hyper-specific practical skills like giving presentations and drafting professional emails right out of the gate.

The only notable drawback is their rather large teacher-to-student ratio of 1:30 for exam preparation, which might feel a bit crowded if you desperately need constant one-on-one speaking practice.

Pros

  • Holds official EduTrust certification in Singapore
  • Conducts full-length mock tests under timed conditions
  • Basic certificates target practical, real-world skills
  • Offers a flexible ten-month part-time study option

Cons

  • Teacher-to-student ratio reaches 1:30 for exam prep
  • Exam prep courses lack internal grading systems

Professional and Inspiring TESOL Training

BEC provided excellent support for completing my TESOL course and, in the one month that I was there, I learnt an enormous amount about teaching English, and also about my abilities and competence. I think that what makes it stand out as a centre of excellence is the quality of the teaching: it is really professional, engaging and inspiring and equips students for real-life teaching, which is extremely valuable! I would definitely recommend the BEC for anyone in Singapore who has a passion, or even a professional or personal interest in teaching English.

Fun and Supportive Learning Environment

I truly enjoyed my experience in BEC! There are 4 modules, and for each module, I had the pleasure of having different classmates to be with. Mr Kennedy is a fantastic teacher; he’s knowledgeable and creative in the way he teaches, making lessons absolutely fun. He is also very positive in the way he says things. And of course, there’s Yu Chin as well, always ready to support and encourage along the way. It’s a really good place to learn how to teach English, and for anyone who wishes to do so, I would highly recommend BEC!:)
