Pongal Festival 2025 will bring more colour to Little India!
Little India is about to get even more vibrant and lively from January 13 to 16, 2025, as it hosts the annual Pongal Festival. This is one celebration you don’t want to miss!
Pongal is a time when the Tamil community gives thanks to the Sun God (Surya) for a bountiful harvest and honours sacred cows. Even though Singapore’s urban landscape doesn’t exactly have harvest seasons, Pongal is a beautiful reminder to celebrate nature, animals, and fresh beginnings.
Every January, Little India transforms into a hub of activity, and this year is no different. One highlight is the Little India Pongal Light-Up, where dazzling light displays fill the streets with festive cheer.
If you’re curious about the cultural roots of the festival, head over to the Pongal Cattle Farm on Clive Street (open 9 AM–8 PM). Seeing cows, which play such a vital role in the harvest tradition, up close is a rare treat, especially for kids.

The fun kicks off early with the Pongal 2025 Open House on January 11 and 12, from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Indian Heritage Centre. This farmer-themed event is perfect for families, with a farmer’s market offering unique agricultural goods and crafts tied to Indian culture.
Kids can dive into hands-on activities, from crafting and face-painting to carnival games and even a photo booth. Don’t forget to stay for the live performances happening throughout the weekend.
