The Best Wine-Tasting Experiences in Singapore for Tasteful Tippling

Singapore’s wine scene is brimming with chic lounges, cosy bars, upscale restaurants, and speciality shops that offer top-notch tasting experiences. I should know since I’ve been to many of them so many times that the sommeliers have become close pals!

So I decided to create the ultimate guide for wine tasting in Singapore based on my tippling forays. Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or just dipping your toes into the world of wine, this list has you covered.

I often visit Ling Ling by The Wine Company for its impressive international wine selection, cosy ambience, and expert sommeliers. It’s perfect for both casual drinkers and connoisseurs seeking new favourites.

It’s my go-to spot at Dempsey for reasonably priced, quality wines (even by the glass) and local fare. The fine dining atmosphere, with its high ceilings, airy environment, and mood lighting, enhances the wine-sipping experience.

Pro-tip: You can ask the servers to customise your chosen dish to go well with your wine.

At Praelum Wine Bistro, we found great service and attentive, friendly sommeliers. The knowledgeable owner shared rich histories of wine and port, and the staff expertly paired wines with our meal.

The food is fantastic, too. Escargot, lobster bisque, and tender beef cheek were highlights.

Starting with Bordeaux, the sommelier guided us through exploring similar wines so it was a fantastic learning and burp-worthy experience for me and my companion.

Pro-tip: Sommeliers, pros and students, can practise through their Wine & Spirit Education Trust and Court of Master Sommeliers-friendly tasting flights.

Vin Geek

At Vin Geek, you can enjoy a wine dispensing station offering 30 ml, 90 ml, and 150 ml pours at reasonable prices. We sampled two 90 ml glasses and one 30 ml, all of them were excellent.

The variety is fantastic, and you can also buy bottles at retail price with a S$15 corkage fee. I love that this bar’s main draw is ordering wine by sample sizes in a cool, relaxing environment and that I don’t have to worry about burning a hole in my pocket.

Pro-tip: Check out their wine-tasting events here, which you can filter by price range.

Fine Wines Tasting Club offers exceptional Bordeaux and Burgundy tastings without elitism, welcoming everyone from novice drinkers to connoisseurs. I like this. I think wine tasting should be for everybody!

I joined one of its thematic wine nights for a blind-tasting experience. Without sight, I was able to swirl my glass, sip, and savour the nuanced notes. It was a sensory feast. And it was great to meet like-minded wine lovers with no pretence.

Pro-tip: The club also hosts masterclasses focused on Italian and French wines.

La Terre’s wine list is pretty extensive, starting with drinks by the glass and featuring over a thousand labels, primarily French wines, champagnes, and whiskies.

I would’ve fled in panic had it not been for the sommelier Mr Kawai, known for his extensive wine, whisky, and food knowledge, ensuring a hospitable experience. His excellent house pours paired with recommended cheese made it a worthwhile visit.

Pro-tip: The intimate space with a romantic mood is perfect for dates, business meetings, and gatherings.

If it sounds super-exclusive, that’s because it is. I was only able to experience what this club has to offer as a member’s guest and learned that no guest may visit the club more than five times per year (unless permitted by the club).

If you’re invited as a guest, adhere to the smart casual dress code. It’s a perfect opportunity to wear a cocktail dress or smart trousers.

The shop emphasises Australian and Spanish wines along with selections from France. The staff also offers glassware if needed.

Wine Marvel’s secret weapon is Khim, an exceptional sommelier. Her remarkable expertise and genuine passion for wine made my experience outstanding.

Khim took the time to educate me on grape varietals and wine-making techniques, sharing her extensive knowledge in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner. She introduced me to a sparkling white wine from the Piedmont region of Italy, which is now one of my faves!

Pro-tip: Don’t hesitate to ask the sommelier questions and try their recommended pairings for a well-rounded experience.

I attended the Grand Cru Wine’s Wine Sensory Experience workshop, opting for the premium package. It was held in a private room with a great ambience, and I learned a lot. Sommelier Yang was very interactive, patiently explaining each wine to us.

Meanwhile, the shop offers outstanding customer service and helpful advice, with a good selection ranging from daily wines to premium bottles.

Pro-tip: Wine and blind-tasting dinners get easily sold out, so be alert for these events.
