Watching movies outdoors is just so romantic. The stars are on full display, and you’re comfortably sitting on a picnic blanket. A perfect date night!

Films at the Fort

Fort Canning Park is best known for its gorgeous, historic landmarks—especially that winding staircase that photographers love. But did you know you can also watch movies there?
Films at the Fort is an annual event, so unfortunately, you don’t get to watch movies there often. That said, when you do get a chance to watch the event, you’ll find that it doesn’t pull any punches.
There are food kiosks on the side and fairy lights strewn around to set the mood. How lovely!
As for the movie lineup, you can expect to find award-winning films. The last time I went, the event was showing Licorice Pizza and Another Round, which were fantastic movies.

- To be able to score a spot for next year’s event, you can join their mailing list so that you’ll get updates as soon as possible.
- If you forget to bring picnic blankets, you can purchase an inflatable cushion from the kiosks.

Located in Tanjong Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Singapore, Hendrick’s Sunset Cinema is the seaside movie experience of my dreams. I’m always pampered with a fancy dinner and signature gin cocktails even before the movie begins!
Once it’s movie time, I’m seated in a comfortable beach lounge chair. The cinema also provides me and everyone else a pair of wireless noise-canceling headphones so that I can hear the movie amidst the strong sea breeze.
Pro Tip:
- Take note that you’re not allowed to bring your own food and beverages. But you can buy something to eat and drink at the Tanjong Beach Club.
The Sundowner

The Sundowner is a nature experience center, which simply means that they offer fun, nature-themed activities that you can do with your loved ones. There’s a great variety of things to do, such as farm tours, workshops, and—of course—outdoor movie sessions.
Their movie-screening activity is hosted on a rooftop, making it incredibly cozy and intimate. A bartender is also included in the package, so you can enjoy delicious cocktails throughout the night.
The best part is that we can choose our own movies. I brought my own laptop, but you can also just plug in your phone and play a movie on a streaming service on the big screen.

- For food, you can request a BBQ pit. The center will only provide the pit, fire tongs, and cutlery. Plates, fire starters, charcoal, mesh grills, and food are up to you.

What I love so much about Movies by the Beach, an event located at Palawan Green in Sentosa, is that unlike the others mentioned on this list, this one is actually free! That’s hard to beat if you ask me.
The movie lineup is usually past classics and blockbusters, which I don’t mind because I enjoy them as much as the recent releases. Plus, there’s a nostalgic factor to watching old favorites again.
Pair that with the gentle sounds of waves lapping at the shore, and I’m immediately in my own (mental) happy place.
Pro Tips:
- Though this is free, the venue only accommodates up to 400 people. I recommend coming here early because the event operates on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- No outside food and drink is allowed here. But there are many stalls and kiosks selling snacks and beverages here.
