At Zuzu Kebab, my go-to is the hummus and pita bread, baba ganoush (roast eggplant dip), and the chicken kebab. The meat’s always freshly cut, juicy, and full of flavour.
The pita is soft, light, and perfectly toasted. The veggies are crisp and drizzled with quality olive oil. But the smoked eggplant cream steals the show—grilled to perfection with a rich, smoky taste.
Pro-tip: You’ll get fresh, made-to-order meals, though it might require a 15-minute wait.

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 7.30 AM–1.30 PM
Price: $$
The bak chor mee at stall 37 has a perfect balance of chilli and vinegar, with al dente noodles that aren’t too vinegary. If you like more heat, add some chilli padis because the shop’s chilli is pretty mild, even with extra.
I sometimes throw in mushrooms. They pair great with the noodles. The added lard is a nice touch for extra texture and flavour. Overall, a great bowl of minced meat noodles!
Pro-tip: You can opt to add an egg for 60 cents—perfect in the tasty soup.

Shop No.: 01-27

Hours: Tuesday to Thursday, Saturday to Sunday, 7.30 AM–3 PM

Aliff Nasi Lemak never disappoints with its mouthwatering yet affordable nasi lemak. I love the proprietary sambal chilli—just the right amount of spice with a hint of sweetness.
The fragrant basmati rice pairs perfectly with the hot, crispy chicken wings. And the crunchy ikan bilis? You won’t resist wolfing it down.
Pro-tip: The tahu (soy-based side dish) is big, soft, and perfect for breakfast. Try it!
Pancake King

Shop No.: 25

Hours: Daily, 7 AM–10 PM
Price: $
For breakfast or snacks, I always hit up Pancake King. The red bean and coconut ones are my favourites—freshly made, crispy outside, and warm inside. I like that the stall makes things upon order and not in batches.
These are the perfect treats on a cold, rainy day. Today, I tried the black sesame pancake for the first time and can’t get over its unbeatable nutty flavour.
Pro-tip: Give the fresh quiche a try, as well. It’s quite filling.
Poh Poh Roasted Chicken Rice

Shop No.: 1-49A
Contact: +65 9101 5811
Hours: Daily (except Thursdays), 8 AM–8 PM
Price: $
When I’m craving a simple but solid chicken rice meal, I head to Poh Poh Roasted Chicken Rice. The chicken is juicy, and the chilli is unique. It has heat but also a hint of sweetness that’s great on the palate.
What sets this stall apart is the unusual add-ons—alongside the usual braised eggs and chicken liver, the staff offers stir-fried cabbage. As someone who likes greens with my meal, I love the sweet, simple, and healthy touch it adds.
Pro-tip: Don’t fret if the rice appears soggy at first. It’s still firm to the bite and fragrant.

Hours:
Wednesday to Friday, 10 AM–2 PM
Saturday to Sunday, 9.30 AM–2 PM

I’ll try not to wax poetic about this stall in Serangoon Garden Market, but forgive me if I fail. My go-to is the signature pig’s organ soup with a side of braised pig’s intestines and a bowl of white rice. The moment the peppery, robust broth arrives, I can smell its rich aroma.
The salted veggies add a salty, sour kick that whets my appetite, while the tomatoes offer a mild sweetness. The braised intestines are well-seasoned and pair perfectly with the rice—so satisfying with every bite.
Pro-tip: A touch of garlic oil and fried garlic bits is the perfect way to finish this dish off.
Hock Kee Fried Oyster

Shop No.: 01-19
Contact: +65 9101 5811
Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 6 AM–3 PM
Price: $
Hock Kee is famous for its fried oysters, but the staff’s skill with fluffy eggs and crispy edges shines in the carrot cake too. I always go for the yuan yang—half black, half white.
The black has deep, sweet-savoury flavours, while the white is bright and savoury-sweet. I also love that they cut the carrot cake into small cubes so they’re convenient to eat.
Pro-tip: Want more kick in your dish? Request the cook to add more chilli.

Shop No.: 01-45/
Contact: +65 9101 5811
Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 6 AM–2 PM
Price: $
This simple bakery stall is all about fresh-from-the-oven goodness. It’s one of the best traditional bakeries around, but I love its pictorial menu behind the QR code (use an app to scan), showing all the bread options.
The bread is best enjoyed hot, straight from the oven, but it’s still good when taken home and reheated. My favourite is the tuna bun—packed with a generous tuna and onion filling.
Pro-tip: There’s often a queue, but it moves quickly enough, so wait it out patiently.
Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice

Shop No.: 01-44
Contact: +6596674860
Hours:
Tuesday to Friday, 9:30 AM–5 PM
Saturday, 9.30 AM–3 PM
Price: $
This is one of the best duck rice meals I’ve had in a long time—flavourful with just the right saltiness. The garlic chilli is spot on too. They say there’s no tapioca starch in the marinade, so it’s not sticky but still very tasty.
I ordered duck rice, pork head, duck liver, a braised egg, and a peppery pork tripe soup, which I absolutely loved. Besides the usual braised duck and pork, the stall also offers lesser-known pig parts like head meat and tongue to go with your meal.
Pro-tip: The average queue time at this stall is 30 minutes, but it moves fast.
Bossi Ban Mian

Shop No.: 01-18
Contact: +6588338118
Hours:
Sunday to Tuesday, 8.30 AM–4 PM
Friday Saturday, 8.30 AM–8 PM
Price: $
Bossi Ban Mian’s dry ban mian is super flavourful, especially with a bit of chilli. Don’t miss its unique green chilli sauce that adds a nice kick to the entire dish.
The chewy noodles come with plenty of minced meat, and the eggs and veggies are nicely separated. It’s a great mix of savoury broth, fresh veggies, handmade noodles, and salty delights like cai poh (preserved radish) and fried anchovies.
Pro-tip: The ban mian is also great for takeaway, keeping its flavour and the noodles stay springy and chewy.
Garden Street Kway Chap
— Media from gardenstreetkwaychap
Shop No.: 01-21
Contact: +6590017844
Hours:
Tuesday to Friday, 9 AM–3.30 PM
Saturday, 8.30 AM–3.30 PM
Sunday, 9 AM–3.30 PM
Price: $
I love kway chap (braised pork with rice sheets) for its rich braising sauce and silky rice sheets. The pork belly here at Graden Street Kway Chap is like dong po pork—soft, melt-in-your-mouth perfection.
The pig intestines are flavourful and well-cooked, with no odour from the large intestines. The egg was the best I’ve ever had in kway chap—silky, bouncy, and perfectly cooked.
Pro-tip: Be prepared for a queue during lunch peak hours, but if you come early, around 10 or 11 AM, the line is much shorter.
Botanic Garden Dessert Corner
— Media from laueric70
Shop No.: 01-17
Contact: +65 9101 5811
Hours: Daily, 11 AM–9 PM
Price: $
Botanic Garden Dessert Corner is my go-to spot whenever I need a sweet treat after a stroll through the gardens. The first time I tried its signature durian chendol, I was hooked.
The rich, creamy durian paired perfectly with the cool, refreshing chendol. It’s a must-try if you love bold flavours.
The gula melaka ice cream is another favourite of mine; it’s smooth, with just the right amount of sweetness and a hint of caramel from the palm sugar.
Pro-tip: Also try the coconut pandan cake, which is light and fragrant, with a perfect balance of coconut and pandan.
