Your Full Guide to River Hongbao 2025 at Gardens by the Bay
Location: Gardens by the Bay
Date: 27 January to 5 February, 2025
Every Lunar New Year, I look forward to one event that never fails to amaze me: River Hongbao. This year, from 27 January to 5 February 2025, the festival takes over the stunning Gardens by the Bay, bringing with it the magic of glowing lanterns, cultural performances, food, and so much more.
River Hongbao has been a cherished tradition since 1987, and stepping into it feels like walking into a world of festive wonder.
Admission
River Hongbao 2025 is held at Gardens by the Bay’s outdoor gardens, with three entrances:
- Entrance 1: Near the Floral Clock (close to the Flower Dome and Shake Shack).
- Entrance 2: Near Floating Baby (close to Bayfront Plaza and Floral Fantasy).
- Entrance 3: Near Garden Pod and Meadow Car Park.
Admission is free, and there’s no need to book a time slot. Just show up during the event’s opening hours:
27 January (Opening Night), 6.30 PM – 10.30 PM
28 January (CNY Eve), 6.30 PM – 12.15 AM
29 January–5 February, 2.30 PM – 10.30 PM
Make sure to arrive early if you want to avoid the crowds!
Getting to River Hongbao 2025
Getting to River Hongbao is super easy, and trust me, public transport is your best bet to avoid any parking headaches. The entrances are clearly marked, and while bag checks will be conducted, travelling light will make everything smoother.
Here’s how you can get there:
By MRT: If you’re taking the train, here are two convenient routes:
- Gardens by the Bay Station (Thomson-East Coast Line): From here, it’s about a 15-minute walk to Entrance 1 at Floral Clock (near Flower Dome and Shake Shack).
- Bayfront Station (Circle Line/Downtown Line): From this stop, it’s another 15-minute walk to Entrance 2 at Floating Baby (near Floral Fantasy).
By car or taxi: If you prefer to drive or grab a cab, here’s where you can head:
- Gate 1 (Floral Clock): Nearest drop-off: Gardens by the Bay Gift Shop; nearest car park: Main Entrance Basement Carpark
- Gate 2 (Floating Baby): Nearest drop-off: Bayfront Pavilion; nearest car park: Bayfront Plaza Car Park
- Gate 3 (Garden Pod): Nearest drop-off and car park: The Meadow Car Park
That said, I wouldn’t recommend driving since parking is limited and the Gardens will be buzzing with visitors. It’s much easier (and less stressful) to hop on the MRT and enjoy a leisurely walk to the event.
What to Expect at River Hongbao 2025
Welcome Arch
When you enter through Entrance 1, the stunning Welcome Arch Lantern will immediately catch your eye. Located near the Golden Gate Visitor Center, this glowing archway is the perfect spot to kick off your River Hongbao experience—and snap a few memorable photos!

The lanterns scattered throughout the gardens are nothing short of magical. The God of Fortune will once again take centre stage, spreading luck and prosperity with his cheerful presence.
A special highlight this year is The Lion City, celebrating Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence with a majestic Merdeka Lion centrepiece.
Garden Rhapsody
Every evening at 7.45 PM and 8.45 PM, the Supertree Grove comes alive with a 5-minute music and light show called Spring Blossoms (春暖花开), specially curated for Chinese New Year. It’s a beautiful blend of music and lights that you don’t want to miss.
Food Street

I love that the festival takes care of my appetite with a dedicated Food Street at Supertree Grove. From festive snacks to traditional delicacies, there’s plenty to indulge in.
While there are tables and benches around the area, seats can fill up quickly during peak hours, so be prepared to enjoy your meal while soaking up the festive atmosphere.
Greetings from Afar
The exhibition Greetings from Afar: Chinese Remittance Letters (侨批千里报平安) is a must-see. It’s inspired by early Chinese migrants who sent letters and money home to their families in China.
Through artefacts, interactive displays, and personal stories, this exhibition offers a touching glimpse into the emotional connections and sacrifices of the past.
Carnival

What’s a festival without a carnival? This year’s amusement rides and games are perfect for families, with attractions like a double-storey carousel, bumper boat rides, and classic carnival games. It’s guaranteed fun for kids and those young at heart.
Nightly Festive Shows
Every evening at The Meadow, live performances light up the central stage. From music and dance to Getai shows, you can catch both local and overseas artists. Seats are first come, first served, so be prepared to queue if you want a good spot.
