The Best Non-Intimidating Jiu-Jitsu Centres in Singapore
Jiu-Jitsu, which means “gentle art” in Japanese, emphasises technique and leverage over brute strength. This means you’re welcome to the practice even if you’re not big or muscular!
If you’re just starting, I found friendly, non-intimidating gyms where you can train, spar, and elevate your skills in this dynamic martial art.

One of the most popular coaches at Juggernaut, Kong, knows how to break down BJJ techniques in a way that makes sense, even if you’re just starting. He uses analogies that really click, and his classes are always fun and lively.
The gym is spacious and perfect for training. Beginners can build a solid foundation here, while intermediates can dive into the finer details with the coach’s guidance.
Pro-tip: The gym reserves the right to deny entry to anyone arriving more than 10 minutes late.

A couple of my nephews are enrolled at Fortitude, and I’m genuinely amazed at the dedication and effort the coaches put into their kids’ program. They excel at identifying each child’s strengths and helping them grow further.
I like that they do not hesitate to make corrections when needed. For competition training, they ensure the kids smoothly adapt to the regime while prioritising their safety.
The coaches even go the extra mile by extending classes to help each kid reach their training milestones!
Pro-tip: There’s also yoga for BJJ classes to condition your muscles.

One of the first things I noticed about Evolve MMA is how clean the gym always is. The hygiene is top-notch, with towels and showers provided. The amenities are well-maintained, and anything faulty gets replaced right away.
When it comes to jiu-jitsu classes, the instructors are top-notch, providing personalised guidance no matter what skill level the student is. Each session is supportive while being both challenging and rewarding.
Pro-tip: Want to test the waters here first? Evolve MMA offers trial classes!
Trifecta Martial Arts
Address: 5 Tank Rd, #02-03
Contact: +6581117019
Hours:
Saturday, 4.30–6.30 PM
Sunday, 9 AM–5 PM

Trifecta is another fantastic gym for kids to learn proper BJJ. I’d even venture to say it’s a great family-friendly spot, with kids’ classes only having up to 5 students for better focus.
The staff are professional and the coaches are passionate about teaching so the kids pick up on that energy. They have a good booking system and a teaching method that instils values, not just fighting skills.
Pro-tip: BJJ grading and promotions are ad hoc, determined solely by the instructor’s proficiency assessment.
Fight G
Address: 41 N Canal Rd
Contact: +6564385788
Hours:
Monday to Friday, 4–10 PM
Saturday, 11 AM–4 PM
Price: $
I tried a free trial class at Fight G and got lucky with a 5 to 1 instructor ratio that day. It’s a small place with limited shower facilities, but the experience was great because of the good company and patient instructors.
It’s a solid spot for beginners like me, with affordable fees compared to other academies in Singapore. My friend, who’s been training here for years, says the gym pushes him to become a better practitioner and doesn’t focus on glitz and gimmicky things.
Pro-tip: Take the conditioning classes if you feel like you need to improve your speed and coordination.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Hours:
Monday to Friday, 12.30–9.30 PM
Saturday, 9 AM–4 PM
Sunday, 10 AM–2 PM

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has a hidden gem in Coach Vlad. He’s serious, disciplined, and firm—exactly what kids these days need.
He’s also careful during drills, especially when the tots are sparring, to prevent injuries, which is a big relief for parents (and uncles like me). It’s great seeing the young ones’ confidence grow in leaps and bounds in the space of just a few months.
Pro-tip: Aside from tots jiu-jitsu, there are also classes for older kids, adults, and beginners.
The Gentle Art Academy
Address: 183 E Coast Rd
Contact: +6563420113
Hours:
Monday to Friday, 7 AM–10 PM
Sunday, 10 AM–5 PM
Price: $$
The Gentle Art Academy is a top spot for Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes for kids, adults, and No-Gi. No-Gi is a grip-focused style of Brazilian jiu-jitsu that is practised without the traditional gi (kimono).
Its mission is to create a fun and supportive environment for all ages to learn BJJ. Classes here mix fun with focus, including strength and technique training and sparring exercises.
I like that students also get plenty of chances to join both internal and external competitions to sharpen their skills.
Pro-tip: Trials are one-on-one for maximum safety, which is awesome.
Elite Coach Sports Academy
Address: 291 Serangoon Rd, #03-00
Contact: +6581129162
Hours: Daily, 7 AM–10 PM
Price: $$
I was impressed by Elite Coach Sports Academy’s setup. It’s bright, super organised, and looks and smells clean. Moreover, it’s a women and kid-friendly gym so I had no hesitation about recommending it to my sister and her kids.
If you’re worried about injuries, trust the coaches and sign up for a 14-day trial like they did. It’s easy enough to drop by and try out different sports like Muay Thai, Judo, and BJJ, to see which suits you best.
Pro-tip: Check out the friendly studio packages that allow you to save up to 50%.
Impact MMA
Address: 424 Race Course Rd
Contact: +6562238275
Hours:
Monday and Wednesday, 3.30–8.45 PM
Tuesday and Thursday, 3.30–9.15 PM
Friday, 3.30–6.30 PM
Saturday to Sunday, 9.30 AM–5.15 PM

What first impressed me about Impact MMA was how quickly the staff responded to my queries. They got back to me within an hour, inviting me to attend a No-Gi class, thanks to its proprietary Vibefam app.
The next thing that awed me was the coaches’ patience. There was a good mix of newbies and seasoned practitioners in the class, and never once did they treat a move or question as beneath them.
Pro-tip: All trial members can take up to two trial classes in different disciplines, and both classes must be completed within the same week.
GFTeam Singapore
Address: 438B Joo Chiat Rd
Contact: +65 98809480
Hours:
Monday to Friday, 7 AM–8.30 PM
Saturday, 10 AM–3 PM
Price: $$
At GFTeam, the instructors are top-tier, and classes are planned months in advance. It’s one of the few BJJ gyms where lessons are structured with well-thought-out progressions so it feels like a real academy and not just a gym.
I like that you’re given the chance to digest the instructions and details at leisure. Other gyms have this habit of churning out moves so you end up confused and feeling out of sorts. Not here!
Pro-tip: There are class packages ranging from one to 12 months and private one-on-one sessions.
Ascend Athletics
Address: 68A Race Course Rd
Contact: +6592286306
Hours:
Monday and Wednesday, 6.30–9.30 PM
Tuesday and Friday, noon–2 PM and 5–9.30 PM
Thursday, 5–9.30 PM
Saturday, 10.30 AM–1.30 PM
Price: $$
If you’re worried about hygiene, Ascend Athletics has you covered. The staff uses top-notch BJJ mats, so you can train with peace of mind. The gym also takes great care to keep the mats clean before and after every class.
Besides that, the vibe and training partners here are supportive and pleasant. Everyone is skilled and respectful, and safety is always a priority during sparring sessions.
Pro-tip: The gym is only a 5-minute walk from Little India station.
Equilibrium MMA
Address: 8 Grange Road, Cineleisure, #04-03 Orchard
Contact: +6566340696
Hours:
Monday to Friday, 6.30 AM–9.30 PM
Saturday, 9 AM–6 PM
Sunday, 9 AM–1 PM
Price: $$
Out of all the jiu-jitsu gyms I’ve checked out in Singapore, Equilibrium MMA is the first where I’ve found free deodorant in the shower! It’s a nice touch that gives my post-mat hygiene a boost.
The BJJ coaches here foster a welcoming atmosphere for everyone, regardless of their background. The classes are super fun yet technical and physically demanding at the same time, so you know you’re learning something while enjoying yourself.
Pro-tip: Ask the coach to go easy on the sparring if you’re a beginner so you won’t get paired with an aggressive partner.
