It’s no question why Dr. Aneez D.B Ahmed made it to our list. As the current director and senior consultant of the International Centre for Thoracic Surgery, we just know that patients are in safe hands with him.

What sets Dr. Ahmed apart from other pulmonologists is that he specialises in thoracic surgery. This means that he can perform safe operations on organs in the chest, including the heart, lungs, and oesophagus.

In fact, he leads a training programme for thoracic surgeons in ASEAN and South Asia—that’s how good he is. And that’s on top of his other qualifications like being a pioneer in chest wall resection and reconstruction, among many other things.

In his clinic, he offers two screening packages which identify your risk of lung cancer. Dr. Ahmed will oversee the entire process so he can recommend the appropriate measures based on your results.

We would’ve liked to see individual procedures available instead of comprehensive packages, since the latter can be quite expensive. But that’s a minor thing to worry about when you’re seeing a specialist.

It’s also great to see that his clinic recognises several Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) including AIA, Aviva, AXA, Great Eastern, Prudential, and Raffles. Apart from that, his clinic also accepts multiple corporate insurance plans, which will definitely make billing easier for you.

Pros

  • Specialises in thoracic surgery
  • Internationally-recognised doctor
  • Two clinic locations
  • Recognises several IPs and corporate insurance plans
  • Only Robotic Lung Surgeon
  • Key Opinion Leader, with several media interview

Cons

  • Relatively expensive screening packages
  • Lack of individual testing services
  • No emergency number available

Dr. Jane Yap is another fantastic choice when it comes to lung specialists in Singapore. She has been in the field for over 18 years now, proving that she knows exactly what she’s doing.

We found her qualifications and experience in the medical field particularly impressive. She has led various medical committees throughout the years, and continues to be involved in international conferences.

What’s also great is that she conducts research on an ongoing basis, authoring more than 35 papers in local and international journals. This tells us that she’s up to date with the latest developments in the field!

We also like the fact that she offers a wide scope of services in her clinic, ranging from bronchoscopy to smoking cessation therapy.

She practises in two major hospitals too, which is a huge plus for accessibility. Even though she follows standard clinic hours, you may also contact her during emergency situations—another huge bonus.

It’s just a bummer to see the lack of their clinic’s recognised insurance plans. We think that having this readily available on the website would be easier for patients to manage their budget.

Pros

  • Wide range of services
  • Internationally-recognised doctor
  • Emergency services available
  • Two clinic locations

Cons

  • No list of accepted insurance plans
  • Doesn’t do surgeries
  • Rates unavailable online

Dr. CT Yeo is another lung specialist with an impressive medical background under his belt. He specialises in airway diseases, particularly bronchial asthma.

In fact, his work has been published in numerous articles, research studies, and reports in peer-reviewed journals, earning him international recognition. This is a huge giveaway that he’s truly respected in the field, which is why we didn’t hesitate to include him here.

Beyond that, he provides a range of health screening packages, as well as lung function tests for routine checks at his clinic, making him a one-stop shop for patients.

Unlike our other entries though, he only operates at one location, specifically at Gleneagles Hospital. This can be a minor downside to patients in terms of accessibility.

On the plus side, one good thing about him is that he’s essentially available around the clock, despite his official clinic hours. This means that you can also put him on your emergency contacts after clinic hours, which is a relief for patients who suffer from long-term asthma.

Pros

  • Wide range of services
  • Specialises in asthma
  • Emergency services available
  • Internationally-recognised doctor

Cons

  • Rates unavailable online
  • No list of accepted insurance plans
  • Only operates at one location

Dr. Petrina Wong made it to our list mainly primarily because she’s one of the few paediatric respiratory specialists in Singapore. In other words, her expertise lies in diagnosing and managing children’s respiratory problems.

We really like the fact that Dr. Wong received international accreditations in paediatric respiratory medicine. But beyond her qualifications, we heard that she’s very meticulous and caring towards her young patients—a very important trait that paediatricians should have.

What’s also worth noting is that she’s part of the SOG network. This means that she works closely with neonatologists, ENT surgeons, sleep technologists, speech therapists, and physiotherapists for your child.

On top of that, she also speaks fluent English, Mandarin, and Malay, which gets her another huge point in our book! You may contact her in the event of after-hour emergencies too.

Currently, she operates in two locations: Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Alvernia. The only drawback we’re seeing is that her clinic at Mount Alvernia is only open for a short period of time and by appointments only, much to the dismay of walk-ins.

In that case, we recommend heading over to her clinic at Gleneagles Hospital instead. Just take note that it’s closed on Tuesdays.

Pros

  • Specialises in paediatric respiratory medicine
  • Has a wide network of specialists
  • Fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay
  • Internationally-recognised doctor
  • Two locations available
  • Emergency services available

Cons

  • No list of recognised insurance plans
  • Not suitable for adults
  • Mount Alvernia clinic by appointment only
  • Rates unavailable online

Dr. Kenneth Chan belongs to a team of highly-qualified lung specialists, which is one of the main reasons why we had to give him a spot here.

His special interests lie in intensive care medicine and smoking cessation. In fact, he served as the Scientific Chair for the World Congress on Tobacco and Health a few years ago.

So if you have family and friends who wish to stop smoking, then we think that Dr. Chan is definitely the specialist to call.

It’s also a great thing that he works alongside respected specialists in the field. This means that you also have other options to choose from, just in case Dr. Chan isn’t available.

There’s no shortage of diagnostic services in his clinic. From lung cancer screening packages to medical thoracoscopy, you can have yourself tested all in one place.

We also think that the availability of video consultations is a huge advantage for patients who can’t travel to the clinic. In terms of clinic accessibility, you also won’t have a problem with that too, considering that they have three clinics available across major hospitals in Singapore.

Pros

  • Specialises in smoking cessation
  • Relatively large team of lung specialists available
  • Wide range of services
  • Teleconsultations available
  • Internationally-recognised doctor
  • Three clinic locations
  • Accepts several insurance plans

Cons

  • No list of recognised insurance plans
  • No emergency number available
